Need help with Pallet Headboard

I'm going to make a pallet headboard for my daughters bedroom. In this picture, can you tell how they attached the two sconces? I want to do this but don't know if they drilled a whole or what? Any clues how to do this? I need a detailed explanation please!

I would say they drilled a hole for the cable and box, and mounted a low profile ceiling electrical box to the headboard.

An ordinary commercial (U.S.) pallet would easily accommodate a standard 1 1/2" deep junction box. The stringers are something like 3" thick.

The wiring could be a little tricky and I would suggest asking how to safely wire it for light fixtures over in the electrical section of GardenWeb.
