I like the colors of the bottom slab, but everything else in the room would have to be just right to go with it. Doesn't seem to me that the top and bottom slabs would go with all the same colors.

I like the top choice best, but of course colors on computers don't always mesh with reality. But, even with that, I do have to agree with raee_gw, that the lower pattern has to work just RIGHT with other things around it.

It's hard for me to say because the lighting is the same in both pics.

Anyway you can take another pic of the top one outside with full sun like the bottom one is?

Thanks for the help. @artemis_ma, you are right about the color representation...looking at them on this monitor I realize how different the colors can vary. In person, the colors of the two actually have some common ground, the rusty colored areas of the Colonial cream are very much the same as the Golden Crystal. Some of the fabrics I was thinking of using look pretty with both stones.

What drew me to the Golden Crystal was that when I first saw it, the overal color seemed browner, or more tan in tone. The Colonial Cream gave a much lighter appearance, but though it looked pretty with creamy white cabinets, I was afraid light floor, light cabinets and light countertops would be too blah.

I have lived with cherry (fuschia) laminate for twenty-plus years! LOL! Not really sure what I was thinking...but it was the early 90s and it was different from all the mauve and blue out there. I also never though it would be around this long...

Anyway, we start demo this week, and I don't want to make another hot pink countertop mistake! :) I have been lurking for months and love reading all the posts and suggestions. I hope to be able to post pictures as we go along.

I much prefer the top one. I think that it is a much better choice especially when you consider your floor tile. (IMO, the Golden Crystal combined with the Golden Ground tile is going to get a little busy looking.)

IF I was equally in love with both granites, I would still opt for the first one because the Golden Crystal granite looks 'fissure-y' that might cause some problems during fabrication or later on down the road. (That's pure speculation on my part--I don't have any first hand experience with it.)

Orange in stone means imbedded oxidation (rust). You'll be getting more.

Ok, I don't want to bum you out but I don't like either. If you are re-evaluating, might you start from scratch, and look for inspiration images with cream cabinets, and find a look you respond to?

i agree with eam44, not really feeling or loving either stone....i think there are much prettier stones out there...look for some inspirations pics and bring your cab and floor sample with you when u look at stones,, it is a huge help.

I have seen granite similar to the top slab that stained easily. You may want to do some testing on the sample first.
