OT - Update on rafting accident

Hi All that checked out the "are you sewing this weekend". I went to the orthopedic doc this am and have good news. Nothing broken, nothing torn, no surgery required on the knee. He drained 30cc of blood and I have a little less swelling and pain. Ice, rest, crutches, and pain meds are on tap for the next week. The bad news is it is the same knee I had surgery on 15 years ago and now there is arthritis so he said if I had hit the other knee, it wouldnt have been as bad. Oh well. I really don't have time for this, but we never really plan our accidents! It is looking better!

Glad your news is 'good', Sue. I had an awful knee problem over the last year...FINALLY it's better..just seems like they take a l o n g time to heal. I did about 4 weeks of PT..mostly it taught me the correct exercises to promote healing/strength again. Hope you heal fast and have no pain!

Sue, I'm so glad your injury isn't serious! Follow your doctor's orders and you'll heal faster. :)

So, stay off that leg!!! Rest it up and it'll heal so much faster! Glad it wasn't much worse.

Aw, Sue. Apparently you will take the time for this...and, most likely, the down time is needed. The very good news is, no surgery necessary! Take the pain meds and feel better soon. Hugs......

Glad to hear there is no permanent damage! Now stay off it and take drugs :)

Well, I'm glad the news was good. Did he give you any physical therapy to help it heal?

I'm so glad it's not worse than it is ... and you have a lovely quilt to recuperate on!

No physical therapy - lots of rest, ice and slowly start walking to keep the muscles in shape.

Sue, I'm so sorry. I hadn't seen this before or I would have sent my best wishes for a quick recovery. Check out arnica at your healthfood store. Fell in California years ago, knee swelled up like a football. After a couple of days of arnica, ice and rest, I was able to walk, climb the stairs of the bus, etc. It saved my vacation.

So glad that no surgery is needed. I hope you are feeling better.

So scary! Glad you are OK, with nothing more serious involved. Be gentle with yourself and give yourself time to heal!

Sorry to hear this, hope your recovery is coming along nicely.

Update: Went to the doc on Wednesday - he drained more blood from the knee, gave me a cortisone shot and said I may need an MRI - could be a torn meniscus but can't tell for sure. I went ahead and filled out the paperwork for insurance approval which can take 10 days! ANYWAY, we left this morning for a 2-1/2 week trip to England to see our son who is working in Oxford for 6 months. I used a wheel chair at the Denvver airport but I am able to get around pretty well even without a cane - I just use it when I get tired. We are waiting in DC for our next flight at 6 tonight. The swelling is going down but I am sure the long overseas flight. If I am feeling better when we get back, I won't schedule the MRI. Geez!

Sue, I suggest you use the wheelchair and cane more often. The more you don't stress the knee and surrounding area, the faster and better it will heal. Remember, my DH broke his kneecap a few years ago and he almost had to be tied down because doc said to stay off of it but well, he said he could get around ok. I know it isn't fun, but do what's best for your body.
