I don't have a room......the back half of the living room. The closet in the back looks a little different now (was originally piped for laundry unit but DH built a room behind it thru the door holding the quilt rack) because I have most of the fabric, still in plastic see through containers, on and under the table to the left. There is also a bookcase in front of the dresser now. The reason I moved the fabric out is because my design wall (72"x48") stands in front of the closet and I had to keep moving it to get/look at fabric. A small ironing board is on the table to the right of the sewing machine behind the big chair. The sewing table is actually a metal desk with drawers on each side. I can never keep it tidy......I think it's a rule. It isn't anything special, but it's mine.

Geezer, looks like a wonderful spot for inspiration, and from the looks of the quilts on the rack is working well for you. Thanks for sharing.

Yes, seems like I work best in an area of controlled chaos. LOL Many more quilt tops not showing. :-)

Perhaps I'll post a pic over the weekend, but my two favorite things in my room are 1) Hugh table 2) walk in closet that is shelving floor to almost the ceiling. The table is a flat door from lowes, 72" long, 36" wide and it sits on two wooden horses. At one end I have a 36"x36" cutting mat, in the middle is the sewing machine and at the other end, I have a 36" square ironing surface. The change I would like to make is have a custom top made so that the sewing machine sits level with the table top, but this works well for me now. The greater the work surface the better. The closet is my downfall in that I thought I needed to fill it up with fabric...we'll we won't talk about that :-|' but it's great to have the shelving to keep the fabric in place.

Have fun...it's great to have a dedicated space and I know I'm lucky to have a spare room all to me and my sewing!

Oh V.. a walk in closet filled with shelves... that would be to die for. Although the quilting room will be in the master bedroom. I am forced to use the walk in closet for (of all things) clothes.

Geezer, you have quilt tops? That is a good thing. I will have drawers filled with future quilt tops.

This is not what my room looks like now, but this is the set up. Imagine this room, stuffed to overflowing with fabric, projects, 2 big collies, 3 cats, a couple used tea cups and an empty Oreos bag.

I love the sewing table with a small, lower table to the right, so I can have a small iron and cutting board right there. Perfect for trimming and for ironing seams on quilt blocks. I love the wall of shelves. I love the TV mounted on the wall so it doesn't take up space that could be better occupied by a stack of fabric. I love the big cutting table along the wall.

I am so fortunate to have a great sewing space.

Under the frame are 3 drawer containers containing my flour/feed sacks, cut up jeans and other "specialty fabrics". on the left is my BIG ironing board DH made me. Under it are 3 drawer containers with squares, strips and I-spy blocks. On the right where the clock is will eventually be my design wall.

This shows the sewing and cutting tables DH made me. Also cabinets with other machines, and the bookcase with my quilting books.

Then the corner with my computer, treadle, batting, dog's bed, and other stuff that doesn't have a home.

Mine is a craft and sewing room. I don't quilt, so I don't have the need for the larger equipment and tons of small fabric pieces that a lot of quilters need. I also personally can't get creative when I am surrounded by clutter, so I try to conceal as much as possible. I have a connected closet that keeps fabric. I tend to only save scraps larger than 12"x12". If they are large enough to be folded, they go on a pants hanger in the closet.

Oh, and the walls on either side of the sewing machine "nook" are mirrored. The previous owners used this room as an exercise room. I don't want to remove the mirrors yet because they are custom and glued on. Would require ripping off the drywall and replacing.

Aren't you a lucky gal to have all of that room! And a long arm on top of it. That is the reason for my redo sewing area, a long awaited long arm. Don' t know what to do with the long arm, can't wait for it to arrive so I can find out. Have you had yours very long? Do you use it often? Do you quilt for others? Your room is terrific love the green and the space.

Thanks CT. I am blessed to have a hubby who supports my addiction, even if I did squeeze him out of his office. I have had this machine for 2 years, I think. I had a Voyager previously, but it had problems. So DH traded it in for the FunQuilter 17 and it fit nicely on my Stretch frame. I love it and use it quite a bit. I do quilt for friends, but don't feel confident enough to turn it into a business (although it has been discussed).

Which one are you getting?

I am getting a Juki 2200QVP. My friends are now asking if I would be able to quilt for them, I know good quilters are in big demand. I told them to give me plenty of time to practice, while secretly, I don't even know how to turn the machine on. Quilting for others would help pay for the machine, but I am retired and 73 years old, not sure I want yet another career, not even sure if my health (which is fine for now) would prevent me from justifiing the cost of the machine. BUT... I want it and can't wait until we get it installed. I am searching for as many tips and advice as possible.

Practice, practice, practice. My dog has a lot of practice pieces to call her own. I only quilt for a couple of dear friends who don't mind imperfections. Hubby has offered to help me turn it into a small business, but then it would be a business and not a relaxing hobby. I'll be more than happy to help in any way I can.

Yes, practice, and keep at it. I tend to go a long time without quilting on my frame, and every time it feels like learning all over again. :)
