Consider a pale tan (very light brown) that is a shade that would coordinate with the wood stripes in the floor -- make sure it doesn't have a pink or yellow hue.

You know you can paint the floor tile? Just google images for painting floor tile. Can't wait to see what you end up doing.

If you pick the darkest color in the tile, maybe it would disappear and highlight the wood. Dark grey or brown

I think the tile is lovely. Maybe a compatible shade of blue or rose red (soft).

One wall a dark navy blue and the rest the same shade as the wood framing the tiles!

Would wainscoting be practical for you? Lower part to match the wood and the upper part you could paint just about anything since it wouldn't be right next to the floor.

I have been away on a project. Looks as if you found the colors you want to use. Sounds great. Curtains sound great too. I agree the curtains are a great way to add a splash of color (nice because you can change them out when you get tired of them). I do pray all goes well with the paint, etc. I agree staying with the white seems like the best choice.

It would be nice to see more pics of the kitchen in relation to the floor to see wall space and all. Maybe it's a case of more than one color would work. And if it's not a big space someone up above posted SW Naval-a dark blue that would bring out the grout lines. And as others have noted pinks and peachy pinks and BM pussy willow would be nice all around. I have a funky what's it color countertop that looks like it leans to a blue gray color and I found the color that's works best are shades of peach...go figure

She has already made a decision. We are waiting to see pics of the finished product. =)

This is the way of design, as you well know. You clearly have been at this for some time now. Perhaps a solid color in the curtains would work better for you? Best of luck and prayer.

This has become a weight on you. I wonder what it would take to lighten this load? I sure wish you could change out the floor or redo the wood. This is hard for you because the thing that is controlling you in this room is your floor. I feel your pain.

Oh Studio! IDK about gutsy. Check with me after Labor Day weekend when we're done with all the painting, we'll see how gutsy I am. But hubby is painting the ceiling, I'm not that brave!

Charleee, there's a market for that tile if you ever decided to redo the floors. I was short about 4 tiles when I pulled up carpet in a closet to have the tile continue on in there, so I searched high and low on the internet, and it was incredibly pricey because the tile has been discontinued. In one case, somebody wanted $150 for a box of 10 pieces.

Gayla1morris, if you can convince my husband you can have it ALL. I don't mind the mixed materials, I just wish the idiot previous owner had gone with a neutral, like off white, tiles.

$150 for ten pieces? Ouch. Well there's a way to fund a new floor. I agree off white or even wood would be better than the colors you have.

The walls are now grey. The insides of the exposed cabinets are now grey. Hubby will paint the ceiling blue this coming weekend. I'm shocked at how all the grey took away from the blue! Everything I didn't want is working, who knew.

Well I've got pictures of the new and improved dining room but for some reason Houzz won't cooperate! Let's try again....Nope! I was reading the Jan Moyer can't attach her pics either! What's going on?

I can't attach pics either since about a week or so.

I wrote to Houzz last week, they said there is nothing wrong that I should just restart my computer. So I did that, still nothing, so I wrote them again this morning!

Same with me Charleee, I can attach Houzz photo's but not my pictures on file. I restarted the computer but it did not help. I will follow this and see if I read a resolution. Hope so.

Or, maybe we should bomb Houzz supports with emails!

Thanks for the news on Sir David, I have been wondering about him, the fire news is so sketchy here. If you really miss us then why don't you come back??

The fire is just horrible. And there's more than just the one! And worst thing of all, the hotels and businesses up there are scalping the displaced residents, charging $159/night instead of their usual $119/night. Karma is a bitch and she is watching.

Disgraceful!! They need to be named and shamed, that is what happens here. Go Karma.
