Is the hardwood that you would like to remove and reinstall a prefinished floor?

It would be very difficult to remove the hardwood assuming it's tongue and groove as they're nailed in on an angle--you nail the tongue down.

Look into going with unfinished hardwood of the same variety and then have the rest of the floor refinished so it blends together.

The hardwood floor will come from another room in our house that is currently being used (as our home office), but will have a new floor as it gets remodeled. (So yes, it is prefinished floor as it has been currently used for many years?)

Pre-finished means "factory finished" before it was installed (all they did was nail it in place). It is possible to remove (carefully) and reinstall solid hardwood floors that have been nailed or stapled in place. Glue in place hardwood is very tough to remove and results in complete damage.

A nail-in-place hardwood has a chance so long as it is thick enough and sturdy enough in construction. Be aware that some damage will occur. I would give a conservative estimate that you will be able to reuse 75% of what is already installed (you will lose 25% of the boards to damage). Calculate the flooring you want to reuse...and remove 25%. Is it enough to get what you need done?

The cost of removal+reinstall is traditionally more than a regular hardwood. They will need to do a complete sand and refinish once the floor has been installed...and that normally means the "in place" floor has to be done at the same time. Not always...but in general that is how it works.

This normally isn't a "cost savings" measure. It is a "waste not want not" measure with a price tag.

Unless you have an extremely rare hardwood floor, you can likely purchase new hardwood that will nicely complement the existing. I do suggest you refinish the entire floor through this process.
