Try 3 pieces of art about the size of the current piece. Alternatively, Put a tall narrow hutch near the door and a larger piece of art or two art pieces on the remaining wall. Instead of a hutch you could get a tall plant to put there. One last idea. Turn your table 90 degrees and add a console along that wall. Then center the art above that and put large flower vase and/or table lamps (could also hang light sconces on walls) on console.

Those are great suggestions. I particularly like the idea of a console/buffet, especially if you entertain. Also, adding lamps or sconces will create ambient light.

Definitely agree with the comment about the art (although we may be a bit biased on that front), but a gallery wall has some amazing potential to showcase the space and get some of your family photos out on display - we have a tutorial on our site here: http://www.gallerydirect.com/design-help/family-tree

the table right there.
May start looking for two additional pictures to hang. Really like the family photos.

Because of the tightness between table and wall I think art is an easy answer. I'm also a fan of over-sized paintings like 4+' x 8+' ... but for this case my instincts are with the majority above that three important pieces will do the trick.

Have you thought about putting the table parallel to the long wall?

That wall would be a great place to display an oversized print of one of your favorite family pictures.

It was too crowded for you, Jane, because, IMHO, the table is turned the wrong way....ur opening to room is wonderfully wide and with the long expanse of wall you r trying to fill on opposite side of opening begs for a buffet piece to serve off of...not one in foyer. The table turned to fill this long expanse would look like a "proper" fit to me..and would not crowd the buffet/credenza. Your lovely lamps etc. would look great with the mirror..the current art hanging in DR could then go in hallway. No expense would please everyone in household! Oh, if only I could fix things in my own home so fast
