Just to get the ball rolling, do you have any options to address the problem from the outside of the house, such as a retractable awning or planting a shade tree?

I would recommend contacting someone who deals in blinds and shades. Functional curtains will be difficult on these windows, but blinds or shades will look and work well!

Brian, the windows you have limit your choices due to the shapes, wall angles, and window depths. You could possibly do cellular shades, stationary screen shades, or you might want to even consider exterior roller shades.

I would think the first thing to do is put overlay window UV filtering films on them. Even if they have UV built in the added layer will help. It should have a high LSG (light to solar gain) ratio with a value
higher than 1.0. The hotter the climate, the higher the value should be
for optimal sunlight filtration. The film should also have an SHGC
(solar heat gain coefficient) value below 0.3 for optimal heat
reflection. That should solve the problem even if you live in the desert. Then you can choose from there if you want to go with an additional window covering.
