There are two types of skylights: those that leak and those that haven't started leaking yet.

As you are aware, if you plan on having a TV in this space, the sunlight will cause havoc on viewing, so place them where there will not be an issue.

you might get some early on advice from a contractor. skylights have to go where the roof framing allows them to go, you you won't necessarily have a "3 inches more to the right" situation.

i like skylights on the north/east sides so they don't need to be covered for sun protection.

Thank you all for the comments. @shirlpp : We are probably going to have retractable covers. @nnigrt : We are ok either way with roof framing. My question was more on aesthetics. Would it look weird that in a large rectangle room the skylights are not centered to the room but to the living room area ( couch et al). The dining room part of the room will not have skylights.
