This island is 10'.5" x 4'.5". Obviously, we have lots of storage and the double fridge/freezer drawers, along with a prep sink and seating. A 3' x 9' island could be perfectly useful and attractive. Depending on what you plan to incorporate into the island will determine how it is to be used. Will it be just for prep, is seating planned,etc. There are many islands that are smaller than this one that work just great!

Thank you! It will only house the wine fridge and the rest will be for storage on one side and then seating at the end and on the other side.

We are also thinking of a 36"x9ft island...exactly in the way franca1966 has described it here about its use. How did that work out for you guys? Is there any pictures you can share? TIA.

Omg franca1966....I am so glad you replied!!! Ours is the exact same layout! What is your clearance on either side? Our rough plan is like the one below. The kitchen is 14'4"x17'5" and the longer side opens out into the family room.

Yous pic gives me hope!!! Also whats the countertop you chose? We are thinking one of the whiter Caesarstones.

You will love it! So much space and I’m glad we did not put a sink in the island. When we have parties it’s great for seating and for buffet. I have 40 inch clearance on each side and it’s prefect. We have quartzite countertops and although I do love it I would go with the quartz. The quartzite does have patina over time. I’m used to it now but if I had to do it again I would go with quartz. The NKBA, where we get our training on kitchen and bath design recommend a minimum of 42" between counters and 48" if possible and/or if two people will be back to back. Seating clearances and major walk paths also have to be considered.
