Many Japanese Maples are under story trees and would often get burnt in a hot, full sun environment. So, if you are planting them below some other bigger trees, they could work great. As always, plant health is soil health, so attend to your soil microbiology with sensitivity and research.

They have one China berry tree that does well but it leaves a mess. Pretty tree though
