Great chair detail

Can any good upholsterer achieve the same look with the contrasting stitching? Can you give me any details re. fabric and thread choice as well as good chair choices to achieve this look? Thanks.

Hi! Thanks for the interest, and I'm so glad you like the work we did on this special piece! We worked very closely with a local upholsterer to achieve this customized detailing. The fabric is a wool-poly blend, quite sturdy and tough; only a durable fabric will work well with this amount of decorative stitching, lest the threading pull too much and enlarge the holes. The thread is a generic nylon upholsterer's thread, and this particular one is fairly thick so as to be durable as well. Many good upholsterers should be able to achieve this look, though I would recommend working closely with them through samples and trials to be sure you get them to produce what you're after. It is all hand-done work, so expect to pay a premium. As for furniture choices, this piece was a custom made sofa with a very clean-lined modern Italian look, which I think is particularly well-suited to this type of detailing. You don't want a chair or sofa that in and of itself competes for attention with the stitching. The furniture should be simple and understated so that the detailing can shine!

    Best of luck, and thanks!
