Veneer over MDF or veneer over plywood...pros and cons on each?

In addition, wood edgebanding tape is secured with water resistive adhesive (we use a holt melt version). I would look to clear conversion varnish as a more durable finish coat for cabinetry. Lacquer is more brittle and will crack and lose adhesion if exposed to water. Conversion varnish is a catalyzed finish, like epoxy. It is available in a waterborne chemistry, low VOC and low odor. Bear in mind that no finish is permanent, it is only a matter of time before any finish hazes, splits, cracks or scratches. Conversion varnish just give you more time.

I like Pro-Core. WOOD Veneer over MDF as a ply in an overall plywood build up. Flat, sound and resistive to moisture...and lighter in weight than straight MDF.

I was wondering the same thing myself. Ironwood, do you mean Pro core PXB or Pro core mdf? And is regular pre-glued veneer edge tape ok for a kitchen door application?

I am interested in more information about Pro-Core as I want flat slab cabinet doors for my kitchen renovation.

I want to do laquer slab doors do replace what I have. The veneer can be a cheaper grade but not one with a prominent grain like oak. I'm not a big fan of mdf for weight and durability but I'm not sure what type of edge banding to use if I'm sending them to be laquered so I'd like more info on Pro-Core too.

Pro-Core is a plywood product with seven plys. Three wood inner core veneers sandwiched by two layers of MDF. Directly on top of the MDF are finish veneers (not finished as in painted) of hardwood. This makes the very thin layers of hardwood veneer lay flat and smooth....no wood grain telegraphing through. It is only available at suppliers specializing in hardwood and cabinetry grade materials.
