I would not attempt this unless with a cement tile all in the same thickness, and a collection of complementary patterns and colors. A difficult thing to do well with "left overs", ( likely to be plain and pretty boring as well) a ton of planning and layout time, and the result could be a total hodgepodge stuck on the floor. If you have TONS AND TONS AND TONS of time to devote to the DIY project in shopping and in layout and pattern install, knock yourself out : ) Very beautiful handmade quilts take time for all the same reasons. They aren't bedspreads, they are art. Planning !00 sq feet of tile art will take some time.
