What a lovely home! I've seen gel stain done on several garage doors and front doors in my area and frankly it never looks good. Someone did it on a half million dollar home right down the street from me and it cheapens the look of the whole house. I think your carriage doors look fine in white-they don't stand out because of the color of your house. IMO, I think your door would look very nice painted a high gloss black. A wrought iron door that's not too ornate would also be beautiful but that's a very expensive proposition!

I think you should visually pull that front door out of that tunnel by opening up the area in front of the house. Remove some of those corner bushes and make a landing out there outside the tunnel. I think then you'll know what color you want that door to be.

Anne_estes027 I am interested to hear more from you regarding your suggestion to pull the front door out the tunnel. Are you suggesting I should remove the urns with shrubs? I have attached an old picture of door b/c it shows close up of entryway.

Great picture of the entry! Yes, perhaps remove that dark green bush next to the house and widen the walkway to about the lighter green bush on the left and extend it to the right side of the house as well, so you have a nice big landing there. Maybe make it an oval-ish kind of shape so it isn't just a rectangle. Then you could pull your urns out to the landing, which would make the space at the door more airy and make the door entry seem to start before the tunnel. I think I would also change out the plants on the right for something else. Something low so you can see & admire the urns. Fun project!

Greige door, shutters, garage doors & framing around bay. The front could use lots more landscaping instead of all the foundation plants crowded around the base of the house.

thanks for your post beverlyfladeziner. There will be more plantings added this fall under the 2 small windows on facing right side of front door. I am not sure if I'm ready to add more landscaping beds to the property. We are on 4 acres & have lots of other beds on property that require ALOT of maintenance...so much so that we have had to hire a Landscape company to help with the upkeep. thanks

No to brown garage doors!

Your brown door looks great up close, but from a distance it just disappears into the rhythm of white and brown windows. You need to take the leap into color!! Your house is gorgeous, and a distinctive entryway will draw the eye and complete the picture. It's a little hard with all the glass on your current door -- a half light would let you get more color into the picture...

i agree & have considered black but also like a pop of burgundy red. What program do you use to get the virtual door? thanks
