I did not put in a built-in soap dispenser, mainly because I didn't want something else to clean around. Also, I like to squirt right into the sink or the pot, not onto the sponge. I keep the dish soap under the sink. This is the thread that helped me decide.

Soap Dispensers Redux

I tried two different not cheap soap dispensers and could not get them to work well. Filling them was also a pain, getting far back under the sink. I would prefer not to have the clutter at the sink but I prefer even more having a small working dispensing bottle. I also like to squirt on a sponge or wherever else in the entire sink, not just at the edge.

In- hate, hate clutter ;) mine works well, has never clogged.

I'd never had a built-in soap dispenser before this kitchen re-do. I'm so glad I decided to put one in. The top lifts off to fill, it doesn't drip all over and the nozzle is long enough to dispense soap into a pan or the sink or a sponge.

If you elect for "in", keep this in mind: when the soap dries up in the pump you can remove the pump top and soak it for a couple hours and it will soften the residue up and it will be usable. I would only put in a soap dispenser because the sink had the hole and it needed to be covered....

I vote for "IN". That along with the Air Gap switch is all I elected for and I don't regret either. It has not been an issue to clean behind at all and is so handy to pump soap right into a pan as it sits in the sink. We've had no issues and I just think it has a cleaner look.

No for built in. I get bored with one design so I change dispensers every now and then.

Neither. I have one of these. It dispenses soap and sits in the sink out of sight when I'm not using it.

I vote for in. Then choose a soap that you can use for hands as well as dishes. That's what I did.

I have one for hand soap. We use the hand soap around the kitchen more than the dish soap which gets used maybe once a day.

Definitely in the countertop. I keep reading posts about clogged dispensers, but I had a $200 Delta Victorian faucet in my last house that came with the dispenser and that thing never clogged once in the 5 years itafter I had it installed until we moved. It was also long enough to reach the sink. I use Costco Kirkland Environmentally Friendly dish soap to wash dishes and hands.

I have the same soap dispenser as swizzle1. When the arm broke off recently (after five years) Kohler sent me a free replacement .

I think Scoutfinch is referring to the Never MT in this thread so have to give it a plug. That's really the reason for an in counter soap dispenser I think. It's basically a plastic extension between the dispenser and soap. Buy a gallon jug of soap from one of the big box stores and replace once a year or perhaps once every two years . We have this set up at both sinks and absolutely love them!

I think I bought a kit set of three for around $35 - You should be able to find a better price than what I have linked above - these make great gifts too!

Put a pump dispenser into the top and have the spout drip into the sink.

Love my "inny" with the Never MT! I was "gifted" one from another GWebber when I was complaining about the shipping cost. If they marketed it with free shipping but a higher price no one would complain.

I keep dish soap under the sink, and hand soap out in a sink basket. I don't like having either one on or in the counter, as it just makes for one more thing to clean around/under. I also don't like the idea of gunky/drippy hands reaching over the counter top to pump.

Well I am still trying to decide myself, my new kitchen is yet again delayed until Jan 2016, so have more time to think about this and everything! I now have a pump IN my sink w/non working NeverMT. I 'think' the professional strength Dawn soap is just too thick. Tried some watering down but not enough water added I guess? Tried priming etc... it pumps right up to the top but won't go thru the pump itself.
IF I can't get the MT thing going better than that back to under the sink bottle for me... though I was so excited to read about the NeverMT...

Regarding the NeverMT - some soaps are too thick, so if you dilute them with water, they work fine.

Our Kohler SD worked fine for about 7 years. It started becoming an issue about a year ago. I would get one small pump of soap out and then have to wait a few minutes for it to pop up for another pump (no, pulling it up didn't help). I thought it was the dispenser and I even ordered a $20 one to replace it.

When I took out the tube for the NeverMT, I discovered soap had congealed/dried up in the tube. I cleaned out the tube, reinstalled it and it works fine! So, now I have a spare one sitting around! It's been over 8 years now and my Kohler SD is still going strong (now that I cleaned out the tubing!)

(Shame on me for not checking the tubing b/f I bought another one!)

One thing I did decide to change - instead of hand soap in the one at the prep sink, I now use detergent. The main/cleanup sink still has hand soap in the dispenser (my DH's preference).

Why? Well, I discovered that I like many of the Bath & Body Works soaps and I wanted to be able to switch them out with the seasons - but I only do it at the prep sink (and bathrooms) - my DH doesn't like "smelly" soaps :-)

He cleans up most of the time, so he gets what he wants at the cleanup sink!

thanks buehl, my unit was new at my last attempts. It has been a couple months now so may try again... I was just getting tired/frustrated of cleaning up all the soap around and trying again. I really need to get something to put some of the soap into, so there is room for more water. Also my soap is blue and someone mentioned using the clear... I suppose it is thinner. Well since it's one 4:30 and DH is out I will give this another try right now! Thanks for the push...

haha... so OK I have gotten my NeverMT to work... well, not quite in the desired/conventional way but it works. :P I now have the correct pump sitting in the Planters Peanut jar soaking... I think the hole is just too small, hopefully it was slightly plugged, as it works with the soapy water in the jar... and will work at some point.
I am sitting to enjoy the last of the peanuts and a cup of coffee... I'm determined I want to use an IN dispenser and NOT have to fill so often... really, really!

Love in counter soap dispenser. Had one for over 20 yrs. I think it depends if ur a hands on kitchen cleaner/wiper if u love it. I couldn’t be bothered with a on counter pump as it would fall over as I usually use one hand.
