family room ideas - chic, casual, comfortable

i have been struggling with my family room for months - i need help in making this space chic, casual and comfortable. the coffee table is not staying and i would like to get pillows, ottoman, rug and maybe a desk near the windows - any suggestions would be helpful. the sofa is charcoal grey and the wall are light grey - the only think I cannot change in the room is the sofa and wall color...HELP!!

If you can't change the wall color, adding some colorful artwork and pictures to the wall would be a great place to start. Then doing some framed family pictures to create a gallery would be nice. The frames can be white, black, turqouise...

The pillows can then pick up colors in the art:

Add some ceiling to floor (or nearly) stationary curtains - Don't match the pillows exactly and don't be afraid to mix prints!

A morrocan blue/ivory trellis rug would lighten the space:

An ivory tufted coffee table / ottoman would be comfy & chic!
