May I ask what is under the shutters? If I may, please consider removing all of the shutters. They are undersized for the windows and take away from the aesthetic of your lovely new home.

Remove them all. If you have a green thumb you could try flower boxes on the two that now have the closed shutters. They look to be at gardening level for you. Your metal table and chairs are not showing well. Try them on the back patio and put a pair of white rockers here. They'll counter balance all the white around the door. Hopefully the window and window box will be white too.

They are odd, your right. To cover the outer one I would use a landscape. A full tree planted directly in front of it. On the inner one near the front door- perhaps a colorful wreath or planter box with taller plants.

Also curious as to what kind of design flaw happened. Could you have put windows in those areas. All the other shutters are far too small - would remove them all.

Than you to all who responded. Behind the faux shutters is brick, just like the rest of the wall, recessed about an inch. As for the inside, the windows are in very nice locations. We had a tree planted in the front yard, but it died. We are replacing it in the fall.

I think the shutters just draw attention to something that's not that noticeable. On the front bump out, I would remove the shutters and let the plantings grow up tall enough to hide it. On the one next to your door, how about adding a scrolled iron piece in the niche and turn it into a focal point at the door? I found this on Ebay. You could have one made to fit your space and I think it would look wonderful! It looked as though there were all sorts of designs available. I'm sure you could find something like this on Etsy as well.

Many have suggested taking the shutters of the home.................not sure the trim around the windows is large enough to 86 the shutters permanently. The faux shutters can simply be painted with the paint from the trim.

I like the idea of having a professional draw up something for us before we do something irreversible. Who does that? An architectural firm? A decorator? Who do we look for?

You can contact a landscape designer or if you have a large nursery near you, they usually have someone on staff who can help. Because they know what plants look like when they're mature, they are very helpful in working out layering, placement, etc.

I just noticed that little bit of eaves up on the right side of the peak. That doesn't look right, don't know if you can get it removed. I would remove the shutters on the "windows" that aren't windows and just leave as brick, except for the one next to the door, which the ironwork would look good Although it will look blank now, remove all the other shutters.
