You have a beautiful sofa. A cotton twill or a Sunbrella fabric would give this sofa a more casual look.

I agree with Beverly. It is a lovely neutral shade, just change out the pillows...

I agree with covering the pillows and would incorporate a little color besides beige in the covers.

I agree, thank you all! Now I just have to find the right fabric for the pillows. That had been my first thought, I just could not decide on a fabric. Raw silk sounds interesting, I will look further .

I think the lovely wood should stay exposed so I would not add a skirt. Ideas for pillows:

You might find a better selection of raw silks at fabric stores that cater to clothing fabrics. Tussah Raw Silk Burlap from India

I wouldn't do a thing to the sofa except maybe add a couple of pillows to give it a less formal look and add a punch of color. I think the artwork, end table, and coffee table are the problem. Even if you change the fabric on the sofa those items are still formal. I would bring in other pieces like one of these coffee tables. Change the artwork to something more contemporary. Choose a couple of throw pillows in one of the colors from the painting. See examples below:

If I were you, I would add a pattern or a pop of color.

Love your beautiful sofa but feel the pillows fight with the contour of the curved back.. Could you possibly find a very contemporary print with the same basic beige color but having a different texture? Using the new fabric to make one long tubular lumbar pillow along the back might give you the support needed while accentuating that long curving sofa back with the carved wood insert. Those pillows are overwhelming, puffy, and dated.
