Yes. The rug is too small and doesn't live up to the attitude of the space. I would go for something with a bold pop of color since the room is monochromatic currently. Maybe even the purple of the sheer if you want to pull in that fun color!

Size of the rug is determined by the size of the room. It should be underfoot when you step out of your bed, and should extend beyond the bottom of the bed. How much is determined by the area it has left to fill. I agree you should change the rug to something more in keeping with the style of your room. Also, moving it tot he be centered on that wall (depends on what's on the other walls). The little dressing table/desk in glass and wrought iron is a little too "lightweight" for the room. Here are some rug suggestions.

I prefer to have a rug to soften the space. Looks like a 9'X12" would be great. Larger is better than too small when it comes to rugs.

Bed should be centered on the wall so it is centered on the ceiling fan. Rug should extend at least 3ft. on either side of the bed.

those lights are awesome. the rug needs to be bigger, so it can slip under more of the bed. gray shag could work.

I would also center the stool under the console to the left of the bed. Lower the print above as well & bring the items on top more toward the center just a bit. Pieces look as though they are really lined up along the walls. Can you give us more photos of the whole room to help us to help you? It is a nice calming beautiful space.

I used to have a large fiddle leaf fig tree in the empty space across from the bed, but it's currently in the bathtub getting a nice, wet shower.

No one ever tells you how finicky those plants are :(

@flairlighting - the lights are just from IKEA! I just reversed the glass pane so that the white side was facing you, and the image shines through when they're on.

That rug is actually too big as well as too dark and not at all appealing with the white headboard and comforter which go much better with the drapes and floor. Consider, instead, two smaller rugs, one runner on each side of the bed. Have them coordinate with your choice of color for your drapes.

Also, since you're considering moving the bed to the center of the room, and if the room is large enough, consider having the foot of the bed aimed at the windows so you see the view while lying in bed and then create a wall of chests of drawers behind the headboard of the bed.

Oh interesting idea... Except there is no view except into my neighbors house, lol.

But I'm going to think about that anyway. It gets the creative juices flowing again :)

Your room is so gorgeous that I think you could do something really kinda "wild," like a leather shag - it'd continue and/or add drama to the room, without being too visually overwhelming.

So per your suggestions, I moved the bed to the center of the wall and I temporarily got rid of the rug (while I shop for a new one)

But I'm having trouble rearranging the furniture- particularly the little glass dressing table, the ottoman, the floor lamp, and the little white IKEA table in the corner. Really struggling with laying everything out.

Note: I plan to rehang the white lamps above the nightstands like I had them in the original pics. Or do you guys like the silver table lamp better?

Hi there your room is lovely. Your room has very few problems however the first thing I would do is center your bed on the wall a little more fully. Since the bed is the focal point of a room invest in some larger bed pillows maybe kings and add some decorative ones with some texture and shimmery fabrics. I would move your dresser to the opposite wall from your bed if it will fit to incorporate a little more balance. I would place the table on the wall where the dresser is now and accessorize if it's long enough flank the ends with two pretty tall lamps or tall sconces with art piece(s) that is large but to scale of table. Since your room is nice and bright I would incorporate a beautiful medium to dark tone patterned or tone on tone wallpaper (again, one with a soft shimmer or silver pattern to catch the light) behind your headboard in the color you choose painting the other walls a couple of tones lighter but complementary. I would also keep the shears in the middle of your window and put regular drapes on either side extending out from the window to give some weight and balance. If your walls are now darker you could just stick with white drapes . To keep your room balanced choose another color to bring into the room besides purple and white. If your not sure what to choose, find a patterned pillow with your colors and choose one more color from there. After you find the rug (I would choose one with some dark edges or pattern to help ground the room) that you like for under your bed I would remove the bench at the end of your bed put an upholstered chair in the corner by the window (with your tall pretty lamp well I think that's what it is) in a color that complements your new room colors. I would remove the smaller pieces that you have in there like the smaller tables, pics, etc. because your room is nice and large those pieces throw it off scale. Don't forget some greenery on your tables and maybe a tall floor plant preferably real: ones that don't need a lot of care I like cactus types. Please post your pics when you're done...! Have fun!
