How to make my painting appear larger?

Hi,
I made an oil on canvas for the mantle but turns out it's too small! my framed canvas is 30" X 40" while the mantle is 65" wide. The canvas is 1.5" thick.
would mounting the canvas on wood and painting the wood in metallic tones help?
I'm quite upset that all my effort seems wasted at this point! Any advice will be much appreciated.

10 years agoLooks beautiful. Here's an idea using a frame that's the right size around the art. You can use a coordinating paint,wallpaper, or fabric within the frame.

In an attempt to fill the space I made another painting to give it some asymmetry but I don't think the two paintings go together. any opinions?
