Flooring for multi purpose room : living and entry

So we have a small 1300 square 1960s home. Which means, the front door entry is in the same room as the only living area. Originally we were going to hardwood in the entire room and get an area rug. But I really want something plush and cozy as this will be our main room for all of life's happenings. So I decided, instead of paying for hard wood and then covering it up with a pricey area rug, I wanted to do just carpet and save the money for the hardwood. The problem is that entryway! I don't want that carpeted of course, but I also don't want just a small square at the from door for a "landing" I added some photos. (The only ones I have right now unfortunately. We are renovating currently) I would love hardwood from the front door into the dining room - however the cased opening into the dining room is not centered on the front door - which would mean it wouldn't be a straight shot, but a slanted one. If I go too far over toward the "living area" it shrinks the living area by a significant amount (it's already a small room!) ANY ideas or examples of ideas?!

Photo below is from the front door. Showing the entry into the dining room. (This is before we moved in and started remodeling)

This photo shows the entrance area. To the left is the cased opening to the dining room. The right, against the wall is the front door.

Here is from the dining room.

Thanks!
