I don't know what the design rule is for this but I'd want a rug I could center with the doorway and I wouldn't put the table legs on top of it.

Have you confide red a runner so it would be narrower and centered with the door? The rug pictured looks too short to me in the foreground of the photo, and a runner would be longer, connecting more into the next room.

Try giving the rug equal distance between the door and the end of the entryway?

If it wasn't for the wall that juts out on the right I would say that the rug would be just fine. I would not put it under the legs of the table. It makes cleaning much more difficult.

I think it's quite a beautiful rug and it's more of a decorative one that I wouldn't want people with wet or muddy shoes stepping on. I would put a rug that is durable and washable when you first step in to the house and then choose a smaller area rug and place that down a bit further.

I personally like more substantial rugs in entryways and think it looks fine.

For an entryway, I wouldn't put the legs under the table though.

I'm not a pro, but I think it looks fine. I hate a small rug by a door where people who enter have to dance around the door to stay on it. And it's dark so it should last a few years even with muddy shoes. I might suggest removing the table for a moment, placing the rug where it looks best, then putting the table back and see how that looks.

We won't recommend putting it under the legs of the table. It's a beautiful natural dyes rug! Just be careful that it does not get dirty often. For that, maybe you might want to try moving it a little to the center away from the door.

Depending on what continues into the home, you can use two slim runners and be very deliberate about them so the balance issue look purposeful. If you have a sheltered front porch, put a nice door mat outside and you may be able to simply have bare floors inside. Also depends on how much inclement weather you have.

I like the size of your rug. It works well when a few people enter, so everyone can fit on the rug (even in warmer climates, visitors feel the rug is there for a reason, so they try to step onto it). The larger rug makes statement and serves a purpose.

I'm with the bigger is better crowd. I always hate trying to keep my wet shoes on a small mat. I would move it right up to the legs of the table but not under them.

Thanks for all the feedback! I got a lot of good suggestions to try! Here is another rug I brought home that is a lot smaller. It is 3.5 x 5x 5. Is it too small? Unfortunately it is wool. Am I crazy to put a wool rug in the entryway in Florida?

Ps. This is the rug that I have in the living room directly in from the foyer and I am trying to find something to coordinate with it that is a washable rug. Any suggestions?

I like it there -- and big -- for reasons already stated above. I'd send it even a few inches further under the console, so that the center of the door design and center of the rug design line up. Right now you have it centered on the casing of both door and sidelight, but I think it'll look better centered on the actual door. That way too, the front legs are firmly on the rug, not hovering on the edge,

One thing I would do regardless of size it put it about 8-10 inches in front of the door. I also think the table is what's throwing the look off, Can you push it back closer to the wall? Or, try an even narrower table?

BTW, wool is a great choice for anywhere because it repels dirt and cleans easily.

The smaller rug's width is good but I think it's too short. I think you really need a runner. Have you looked online?

By the way, wool is perfectly fine for the front entry. It's durable. Just vacuum it regularly. I have had a wool rug in my front entry for years and it's not showing any dirt.

Would move it closer to console and put front legs on it. It is floating and needs to be anchored. Give it a try. And send us a pic.

Much better. Looks like it now belongs. We have a wool rug in our family room. Absolutely love it. Nothing sticks. Cleanup from spills is a breeze.

With table sitting on the rug it becomes off centered to the entrance, which I think is more important to consider. You could try pulling it down further also - it's ok not to be right up to the front door and that may be throwing you off. It may be nice to go with a more contemporary style that makes a statement at your front door. We just spilled wine on our wool area rug in the living room. I thought it would be disaster. Wow! It cleaned up quickly! We blotted it with towels and then through salt down. There was no absorption in the salt which tells me we were able to blot it up quickly. Thanks to all of you who told me spills were not a problem! I will indeed consider a wool rug for this entryway

I love the color, but it is too wide.

I have learned that having a rug just inside the door, of any size, will eventually cause the rubber gasket on the bottom of the door to wear out. It brushes against the rug with the door opening and closing and will eventually just tear off. Then you will have a stringy piece of rubber dragging back and forth that you will have to cut off. It is there to help with insulating the
door. Must everything have a consequence?

I agree that it looks a bit off with the table legs sitting on it. Keep looking for just the right size/color. I would also not place the carpet right against the door sill...pull it out about 6-12" to show some tile.

Bigger is definitely better. And prettier. It would be fine to move it a tiny bit further into the hall, away from the door, but it looks great where it is.

Here is a new rug. Smaller and a different color. It is indoor outdoor. We just received it so it needs to flatten out a bit. Feedback on this would be appreciated! We also raised the picture. What else should I do with objects in the table? Thanks all!

And since you asked, the only nitpicky little things would be the low dish in the center swapped out with the plant, and perhaps a series of two or three attractive storage baskets underneath to obscure the plug and keep your ____________ (fill in the blank -- I know most houzzers will say shoes, LOL.)

Thanks for the feedback. So you don't think the rug is too small? I appreciate the idea of baskets--that will work great. Here is another idea I had instead of the flat bowl. Would you still recommend the bowl and switching the two around?

It's just a matter of a tall thing to either side and a lower thing in the center. Or group the three to one side with the lamp on the other and nothing in the center.

According to my point of view this rug looks gorgeous at this place, it is perfect in size for this area.
