We had a similar problem with our house. My husband bought some concrete stain and stained each brick individually and it made an amazing difference. We did have far less brick than you do! I would have someone professional come in and spray the brick to a color you like.

Painting seems easiest.

I think if you paint the brick, the windows are going to look bad.

When was this house built? The window designs are a little odd - especially the arched window in the second floor under peaked roof. I think you generally see that type of window either on a first floor, or on a second floor under a centrally place peak.

But somehow these overly traditional "borrowed" styles are so how working in your facade. I think if you paint the brick, you might lose this possibly delicate balance.

Another thing is that it looks like you have relatively inexpensive windows with applied muntins in these rather elaborately shaped and trimmed windows. I think the windows themselves are going to pop out like sore thumbs if you paint the brick.

Finally, somehow the overall facade really does manage to de-emphasize a large, practical garage. I wouldn't want to do anything that might mess with that effect.

Is the brick color really that bad? Hard to tell from one photo. What is the material around the windows that looks like limestone? Is that concrete or what?

I think none of the windows match which makes for a very confused facade, not sure painting all that brick is something I would do the up keep will be big I think a black garage door , black railings and front door and then see if you like it better before committing to the whole thing painted

The house was built in 2009. Yes it is concrete around the windows. There really isn't much symmetry to the facade, especially with the elevated roof on one side. What should i be highlighting..the garage and doors?

What geographic area are you in, roughly? Snow, no snow, lots of rain?

I think you could resovle a few things without changing the brick's color. Because there is really no contrast, the brick stands out right now. You could distinguish your home and higlight its features by painting the juliette railing and your front door railing black as well as your garage door. If you like the look, painting the window trim black would be really modern. Add larger coach lights on either side of the garage and next to front door - or even better, hang an outdoor chandelier in the entryway. Landscaping would make a huge difference as well around your front staircase. In regards to your door, you could also go black or if you want impact, maybe play around with a few colors. I think these changes will be a lot less expensive and save you worrying about maintenance on the brick down the road - but create a really pretty nice facade.

I'm in Toronto, Canada. So we get a fair bit of snow for 4 months of the year.

Stain is the right answer then - painted brick has difficulty in freeze thaw zones. You want a tone out of the stone on the bottom of the house - something darker than the precast stone but lighter than the darkest stone piece. A mustache bracket around a carriage lantern over your front arch in the same wrought iron tone as the juliet balcony would be my suggestion - beverly posted a few images yesterday like this . .

Since the white rail looks great against the beige stone, I would suggest you paint the brick white and then add shutters that are the same color as the roof. You might add a porch ceiling light that will shine adequately down the steps. If the ceiling light is not enough, add pole-mounted carriage lights in the ground on each side of the steps. Matching carriage lights that flank the front door and the garage door would be a good idea, and I would suggest matching lights for other exterior doors. Since there is a bit of overhang in the garage area, you might install a matching porch ceiling light on the ceiling of the overhang. I would suggest black coach lights to contrast from the suggested white paint and beige stone effect. I think your house has beautiful architectural elements, and I do not blame you for wanting a change from the pink-tone brick.

Maureen suggestion is great. Would really give it an updated look with a lot less headaches. Even widen the trim beneath the second story windows to be a wide black band. Black paint can work wonders!
