Don’t glaze your cabinets it is a dated finish and IMO always looks dirty but 2 shades of gray would be very nice with the very pale gray on the top and then some simple glass subway tile

Pat, thanks for your reply ... my counter top is wilsonart's "winter carnival" ... I don't think i would like gray with the colors - backsplash already purchased is travertine noce.

I like brown for your lowers. Dove White for the top. If you want glaze then you should have it. That Noce looks to have a lot of yellow in it. Is that so?

emmarene, thanks for your reply .. about the noce, i guess there is a yellow undertone ... i also had consideed an ivory travertine.. both are a brick pattern with a rough looking finish.. i can exchange the colors if needed. the counter top has not yet been installed. yes, brown is my color choice for the lower cabinets - now i need to find the correct shade. i've seen alot of suggestions for dover white so i guess i'll take a closer look.
