Formal Living Room
I am working on my formal living room. Since this is the first room that a person sees when they enter I want it to look warm and inviting. Also the sofa faces the stair case and the laundry room door. I want to have something interesting to look at as the focal point.
I am finding it hard to decorate this room since its also small. Please help me with some suggestions.

10 years agolast modified: 10 years agoRemove everything from the room except the sofa and art. Get a larger version of your rug that will slip under the front 1/3 of the sofa and extend a foot or more past the ends of it. Buy a round glass and wood coffee table to sit 18" or less from the sofa. Pull the sofa away from the window and center it with the art, which should be lowered to 5" above the sofa back. In the corner behind the curve of the sofa, add an arc lamp to reach over the sofa and hover above the coffee table. Get light colored print fabric drapery panels that are lined. Hang the all the way up to the top of the recessed area. For longer lengths to touch the floor you may have to order online. Instead of lace between them, get some fabric or fiber blinds or roman shades. Add a pair of small scale print slipper chairs with their backs to the dining room.Try a pop of citron with lumbar pillows for each and a citron garden stool between them

Thanks a lot for your suggestions. I did move the couch away from the wall and centered it with the art work. It did make a great difference. I changed the potted plant and put a palm out there. As for the rug I could not get the same rug in a bigger size. So I am still searching for something that could go with this couch. I did want a rug that would blend in with the two rooms(flow into)Would a cream color rug with a couple of colors work with this room? Also the lighting the room already has a ceiling light.I will post pictures once I get this rug.
