I think you're right the kitchen needs tweaking. The only entrance now is near the front door and to set the table you'll need to walk all the way around the front door? Is that the refrigerator at the front door? Is there a wall planned there? How many in your family? Do you need that many counter seats? How about the sink at the window looking out of the front? Oh...counter height is usually preferable to bar height in a kitchen.

PS. With the lake view, I would have the entire sunroom wall bifold glass doors to open the spaces completely up. Awesome.

Is there a second level planned? A friend has a similar plan. The fireplace is in the other corner, closer to the Master bedroom. The dining room is where you have your kitchen, and her kitchen is where you have the extra bedroom at the back of the house...open to the great room. She has two extra bedrooms on the other level, as well as one above the garage.

I am trying to find a photo of the kitchen design that I'm thinking of. Sort of this design, but reversed (peninsula by the dining table) and the sink at the window in the front. This way, when you enter the front door, you don't walk into the kitchen (as you say you don't like).

I have a different perspective. I'd move the kitchen to the back because I'd want to wash dishes with that view! Also I want my front door to open up to something lovely not a kitchen. I'd have a bank of windows and no upper cabinets with transom/ French doors on either side.

Yes you want to change it because it's not a good plan. I would look some more, i'm sure you will find something better.

I won't want my kitchen in the front and open. Never understood why people like that kind of arrangement. I agree with the person who said move it to the back. Most people still wind up in the kitchen, so why not not have something beautiful to look at.

You need an architect to design a plan that is site specific. Generic puppy mill plans that need to have ''just'' a bit of tweaking because they don't work, and then be engineered for your specific climate and codes requirements often end up costing more than just designing something that works from the beginning. "Tweaking" is never ''just'', and isn't isn't even what you are talking about here. You are talking about a complete redesign of a mediocre plan that is poorly suited to your needs and the site.

Hire an architect.

This whole plan is weird IMO I would start again.

Keep searching - there's too much you want to change for this to be your perfect plan!
