Next I would do the window treatments. You can block the view of the fence if you do a bottom up cellular shade.

Your tv over fireplace is sort of overwhelming it. Plus, too high for best viewing. Have you considered putting it above the chest to the right? Could be put on a swing arm. Sectional could be pulled forward and out more towards the tv. Other sofa could be replaced with a couple of chairs.

I would put art above console, you can get a nice large piece to fill area. You don't have to use red for accent color, any one will do..orange, blue, purple??

The space is very nice and cozy, I would just add some color accent with a modern rug or a colorful artwork. By the pendant lighting fixture is beautiful, similar to our blown glass lighting.

not sure why you opted to put the tv over the nook above the fireplace, It would totally look better over the console. its much to large and shrinks the fP a lot.

first thing i would do is get some art work, in a good scale, that will really help you draw some inspiration.

I agree that the tv would look better above the chest... However limited from doing that as the sofas would be unable to be pulled up close enough for viewing due to door closeby and would make the sofa pull up too close to the dinig table and would then make the space feel weird...

You could hang panel just on left and right side of each window or 2 on each window.

wall mount tvs have pull out swivels available. that solves the problem, it can be tucked back when no one is watching. it also could be turned to the kitchen when you cooking or something to that nature.

Otherwise i would remove the console, bc, even with art over it it seems out of place and too low for display.

For rugs, are you looking to with modern style or a Persian style rugs?

Hi, love your space and what you've done so far. Based on what I saw in a few of your ideabook pics, you seem to like spaces with modern/contemporary abstract art (like in the last 3 pics shown below)?

Art is a great way to jumpstart more inspiration for your space.....but really is a personal choice. Check out sites like etsy.com for some really nice choices of (original) abstract artwork at relatively affordable prices, too.

Find a large piece for above the sofa (between the windows).

And then something complementary, like "art blocks" (or a similar type of multi-art configuration) for above the white console?

Have you taken a look at West Elm for rugs yet? If not, definitely take a look. They have a very nice selection of fresh, contemporary and transitional style rugs. If you do decide to go with some bolder/brighter colors in the art, I'm thinking a more neutral-colored rug....?

What sort of budget do you have in mind by the way for rug, art, tables, etc.?

Crate and Barrel also has some nice rugs.

I had actually proposed an acrylic coffee table but then noticed she has acrylic dining chairs and I feel it would be overkill.

I think the room needs texture so I like the shaggier style rugs. An interesting floral or greenery centerpiece for dining table. Drapes of course. Metallic accessories

What does everyone think about the mirror above the console? Or even the sofa? Pretty large too measures 47 inches wide...

I like that it is round (as opposed the other shapes on that wall that are all rectangular), and that it is metallic and has both gold tones and silver tones. I Think you do something a little more elegant and sophisticated (see pics)

I still think coffee table and rug needs to be your priority though.

I really like the first image... Which mirror is that? Agree that coffee table is also a priority... It's just rather confusing... Have 2 small kids... So was trying to avoid anything glass or with sharp corners... Which is why was gravitating more towards a round coffee table

Not much of an impact. with the FP and big TV, you really need something next to it that makes a statement. Art is better suited IMO. Compare the 2 mockups I did and see the difference.

I like art over it as well but I don't like the art mimicking the shape of the TV. So the roundness of the mirror appeals to me. Or maybe a diptych of some sort? Or 2 smaller square pieces hung vertically.

I think a round coffee table is ideal. Glass with a metal or wood edge might be ok with kids. Or full metallic round.

I wouldn't put anything on the wall above the sofa until you decide on window coverings. Drapes would look great, and soften the room.

priya, the first one is the Uttermost 12846 Tremeca Brass Starburst mirror 45" . Its about $500 but has alot of impact. its my fav too. Google "Brutalist sunburst mirrors" for similar

on drapes, if you use metallic tables, an imitation silk drape could be really pretty.

thanks rubyroses, i agree, with the imitation silk drapes vs also considering partially sheer drapes with fabric blinds by hunter Douglas in the background. regarding throw pillows, am planning to change them out...though still like the idea of gold and maybe teal against the couch.

Do you think that this sideboard would work in my space better than the current chest? It is a foot taller than the current chest and also 4 inches wider... I know some ppl had commented that the current chest is too low for display ... Though I think it is certainly more modern looking... Wondering what everyone thinks?

That is a great size. Don't hang it too high if over sofa should be about 7" above back. Pull the sofas in from your windows, change the TV mount to an angled mount & install above either the white console you now have or if you decide to go with the larger one (I would). Do not hang a mirror where the reflection is not something you care to see.

If you get a new coffee table or ottoman, pick a mid range color. The white one sticks out like a sore thumb (color wise). Sorry. I would go with heavily textured rather plain rugs to go under the living area & dining area if choosing two. Ideas for drapes:

When hanging drapes install the rod close to the ceiling taking the drapes down to the floor.

Agreed... Definitely will be getting a new coffee table and not in white... Though the current ottoman is more of a light beige not white...

You've got a great start and people are offering great ideas.

I like the idea of that organic shape (sunburst shown) over the console. And then another piece of art between the windows. Whoever suggested heavily textured rugs had a nice idea. Then choose your drapes after the art and rugs are set so you can select something that ties them together. And finally select your paint color last. Maybe if you choose a dark accent color for the fireplace wall it would help the TV look less overwhelming? When all this is done you can come back and replace your throw pillows and coffee table/ottoman if you still want to.

ur absolutely right. i did get a lit of great inputs. i did already make some changes based on those inputs. will be putting up pics soon. i pit sunburst mirror , however its on the wall above the sofa. also waiting for the art piece already ordered:).

I agree with pcmom1. The TV takes over the fireplace. If you don't want to move it over the cabinet on the side, which is a much better viewing height, I would consider changing the fireplace mantel for a less delicate, bigger one. Also, the sectional and sofa are too much furniture. I would pull the sectional further away from the wall and add a couple of chairs on one side and a couple of ottomans on the other for additional impromptu seating, and replace the ottoman/coffee table with a solid piece. Get a nice area rug to tie the seating area together. Also, there is a lot of brown going on. Brown walls, brown furniture, brown floors. I would paint the wall a cooler color, and pop some color in with accent pieces like pillows and art. If you like yellow accent color, cool bluish gray walls would look nice.

I think a rearrangement of the couches would open up the living room more. As for colours, a calming blue-green would look fantastic!
