Giant weeping sequoia question

We have a 30+-year old tree that we absolutely love! Unfortunately over the past few years it has started to lean more and more at the trunk, and we are worried that it could become uprooted in one of our frequent windstorms (Pacific Northwest). The heaviest branch leans out to the side about 8 feet. Can we cut it back to more "balance" the weight without killing the tree? Many thanks in advance for your help!
