Need help finding IKEA Birkeland Pax Door

last modified: 10 years ago

In need of one Pax Birkeland Door (by IKEA), no longer sold in stores.
90 3/8" long x 19 1/2" wide, article # 900.493.23

I have called & emailed every IKEA store in the area only to have them say that the Birkeland was discontinued in the summer of 2014. Thus, I posted a want ad on Kijiji but have not received any feedback.

Any suggestion is much appreciated. Thanks!

Maybe change the middle doors to something else like the mirrored ones or glass

    Hi KeHow,

Did you find the Birkeland door you were looking for?

If not, I have a proposition:

I need 4 of the same doors, which you have 5 of and need a sixth. Like you, I'm facing the challenge that they're discontinued. In my case, they have to be those exact doors because another large unit in the same room has 10 of those same doors.

I have now added a smaller unit with 4 doors and the new one has to match the existing one.

So, what if I purchased a new full set of 6 doors for you, in exchange for the 5 you have (even though I only need 4)?

I think we'd both out of a jam this way.

    Let me know.

    Best,
    Rod

That's very kind of you & if we'd been in touched several months ago, we would have made a deal. After months of endless searches on Craigslist & Kajiji, I finally found a matching door (in great condition). Thanks for reaching out, though! Good luck in your search.

I have 8, and I'm selling on ebay with cupboards etc. But 2 of the doors are without cupboards if you're still interested?

I'm also seeking a door for my parents. I've not had luck. I don't think this style was around very long before being replaced with the more-cheaply styled (but sturdier?) TYSSEDAL doors. Someone in Canada was selling a pair so I drove up from Massachusetts after they told me they were available and then they wouldn't return my messages :-(

Hi @victor66, I live in a small Toronto loft that came with NO closet space other than the door-less Pax 1/2 wardrobe you see in the pic. I knew at the time I moved in the loft that my stay would be <2 years so the IKEA Pax system was the best option. IKEA is so busy/chaotic that I found it easier & a lot more economical to buy them off Kijiji. I was able to find 2.5 Pax wardrobes on Kijiji and they came with the Birkeland doors, thus, leaving me needing one more Birkeland door. After a few more months of searching, I was able to find someone on Kijiji willing to sell me their Birkeland doors because they wanted mirrored doors. I am not a fan of IKEA as I find all of their furniture to be low quality (I am from a small town in the southern US and have only ever had all solid-wood furniture) but this wardrobe system has been great for the space I have. I've attached a current pic, notice I didn't change the handle, which is an eyesore. Also, the nice man I purchased the wardrobes from had them dismantled when I picked them up so I didn't know the door handles were installed unevenly - that really got on my nerves at first, too, but I kept telling myself, this is a short-term living situation.

@jamescobalt yes, I learned the hard way that the Tyssedal replaced the Birkeland by buying one, getting it home, only to find it was not the same door. So frustrating! I considered buying all new Tyssedal doors but after comparing them, I agree with you, that the Tyssedal is more cheaply styled (I'm not sure on the sturdiness). Sorry you had to make a trip to Canada with no success; it's a shame someone would do you that way.

If anyone is interested, or needing any component(s) of the Birkeland Pax wardrobe system, please let me know:

Now I'm looking for the 19.5" wide and 76.75" high Birkeland door as well. If anyone out there has one..... I fell into the Tyssedal trap too!
