Furniture placement in family room

We have to furnish our great room from the scratch. We have another formal living room so looking to make the great room comfy and low maintenance without compromising on style.

The TV will go on the wall to the left of the fireplace (where the pack and play currently is and yes, the Pack and play will be out of the room) the toddler is here to stay! Do we do need hardy fabrics. Open to leather but probably just chair or two.

The room is painted white and has dark stained beams on the ceiling. The fireplace surround is carrera marble.

Attached pics of the two style of sofas we liked so far.

Looking for idea in furniture place that would be comfortable to watch TV without taking away from the main focal point, the fireplace.

We definitely want the TV on that wall and not above the fireplace. The size of the room is 12x17

I have pretty much the same configuration. We have the sofa facing the fireplace and a chair angled facing tv. It works really well. Personally i wouldny choose white couch with a toddler even if its washable. Ours is performance velvet in taupe and it has worked great. What kind of rug are you thinking of?

Also one thing is maybe vary the leg profile. Meaning if the leather chair has legs like the one you pictured choose a couch without the same visible legs

Beautiful room. I wouldn't get a 2 cushion sofa. If a 3rd person is ever to sit there they end up in the "crack". I do like the sofa's style, does it come with 3 cushions? I would face sofa to TV and 2 chairs facing FP. With the Carrera, a charcoal gray would be nice. BUT I would start with the rug. Make sure it is large enough at least 8x10

I like your choices. I think a two seat sofa is much more comfortable than a 3 cushion sofa, for the way it is usually used. Just get it in a durable fabric. With the roller legs on the chair, it has to be on top of a thick rug. I would place the sofa facing the fireplace, with a chair on either side, facing in, or with the two chairs together on the right, depending on TV viewing.

A Persian rug in salmon color is what tops out list for this space.

Though I think that is an attractive rug, based on your current room finishes, including the marble surround, it's not the color I would suggest to build upon.

Beautiful room! It's so clean and crisp I wouldn't do a traditional rug like the others are showing- it doesn't look your style. I would do a grey rug with geometrics or something more modern that had a pattern but yet can match everything.

Thanks rug knots! I am attaching pictures of rest of the living areas in the house so you know our style. It's definitely no where close to modern but it's not uptight and traditional either.

It's traditional with a hint of French Provençal and color. I like neutrals as much as I like some color in every room. That's why the peach/salmon pink rug for an all white and wood family room
