French door covering?

We have 8 foot french doors to cover in the bedroom. These doors overlook the screen porch. We have cellular shades covering the windows in the bedroom. Our house is modern so covering needs to be sleek and unobtrusive. We want the covering to be minimal during the day. Tried to get between the glass blinds that add on to the door, but they don't come in this large door size. There is not enough space for curtains on either side of the doors on the inside. We are not sure if cellular shades would work because of the door handle. We are considering curtains on the outside. It would be a pain. Any thoughts?

You will have room for drapes. Install from ceiling down to the floor & use grommet top or clip top ones & pull them both over to the left when opening .

Okay. I wish we could get away with one panel but we need two. I was trying to prevent the bunched up look. Can't go to the right because of doggie door which gets used constantly with four small animals.

The two we've seen of the four small animals are simply adorable.

Could you install a smaller tv, or move the existing one a bit to the left to gain the room for drapes? I think if you chose lighter weight fabric for two panels, you'd find that sandradclark's excellent suggestions will work for you.

If you order blinds with a cutout option, it would leave room for your door handle, while still giving your home that streamlined, sleek look you want. Here are a few options:

Another option to consider is a solar shade in the same color as your doors. One mounted on each door would be a very modern look that would basically "disappear" when it rolls up into the cassette.

I would recommend a 3% opening which gives good solar protection while allowing you to still see through it.

Also, very important to make sure you order the shades with a fabric wrapped cassette to match the shade. This will hide the shade mechanism to give you a clean, finished look.

One source you might consider is Hunter Douglas; go to their website and find a dealer near you. Their warranty can't be beat and their pricing is very competitive for quality. The HD dealer can measure for the shades to ensure the shade doesn't hit the door handle when it comes down. They'll most likely have the shade roll off the front of the roll giving you the 3 or so inches you need.

Finally, not sure if you have taller dogs or children but be sure to discuss cord safety with the HD dealer when they measure.
