It depends..can you post a photo? BM White Dove OC-17 is a great color. If you do everything the same color there will be no break points and it will all blend together.

I have done exactly what Brandi recommends and it's been lovely.

Sound painting, the house is completely gutted. It's a blank slate.. there's nothing to see, so a photo would only show the old paint color and an empty kitchen. I'm torn as putting white dove on the walls and ceiling would eliminate break points but it would slightly darken the ceiling. Brandi and sjb, the trim would match the color of kitchen cabinets (via Lowes paint match), which is a soft white. Do you think a bright white (bm decorators white) on the ceiling, a "soft" white on the kitchen cabinets and a white dove on the walls all go together? I'm thinking of keeping it simple... only two paint colors.

In a low ceilinged room I like to paint walls and ceiling the same color it blurs where the ceiling begins and actually makes it feel higher.

Beth/Carmen, the walls will be a different color than the cabinets. I need help picking a wall color though. I was thinking BM White Dove. I'm not sure how that color would work with the kitchen cabinets, which will be white but not bright white. (I'm going to have Lowes use their cabinet floor sample to match the paint on the cabinet.) The other question is the ceiling color, which I was also thinking would be White Dove.

Goveraxle, your middle photo is a great example of what I was thinking. I have dark wood floors too. In that photo, it looks like White Dove on the walls & crown molding, with white everywhere else. The only difference is I'm thinking of paiting my ceiling White Dove as my white wall cabinets will be flush with the ceiling (no wall or crown molding above the wall cabinet as you see in the photo).

I'm not sure White Dove will work with my "soft" white cabinets. Does White Dove walls only work with bright white trim and cabinets? Is there another wall color I should be thinking about instead? (I like the soft wall contrast in the middle photo.)

I'm not sure White Dove on the ceiling will look aesthetically pleasing even though there would be no breakpoint between my walls and "low" 8 foot ceiling. What would you think of the second photo if it didn't have crown molding, its wall cabinets were flush with the ceiling (which I must do) and its ceiling was only 8 feet high with White Dove paint on it? Certainly, a higher ceiling would be nice but I cannot change that. I can change the ceiling color... White Dove?

If you are looking for maximum light reflection, paint your ceilings "Ceiling White" all manufacturers have it premised in the can. It is specially designed to minimize any ceiling flaws and flat flat flat in finish to look seamless.

If you paint the ceiling the White Done to match the wall paint White Dove, the paint on the ceiling will appear much darker than the walls because it is a different plane unless you cut the color by half.

Beverly, I never thought about the ceiling being much darker than the walls when using the same paint color. I wonder if half the color on the ceiling would really be the best way to go (not that you are suggesting it is). I was trying to limit the wall palette to two colors. I like to keep the interior simple and streamlined; maybe that's a mistake here. Has anyone used White Dove on the ceiling and walls in a room (or any similar color); I would like to hear from you if possible.

Decoenthusiaste, I'm surprised how white the white dove looks in the photo. I'll take a look at Navajo White. It may be a shade darker than what I'm shooting for. Thanks!

I do not know what to do. Maybe painting the ceiling the same color as the cabinets is the safe way to go. I'm not sure if it's the best way to go.

I am not sure White Dove is the best pick either for the walls, although I really like it for keeping the house in a light color.

patrickgaffney35, perhaps you could bring in a designer to assist with paint colors? Many designers do paint consultations, and will be able to help select colors in the natural light of your home, which is always the best way to choose paint colors. A 1-2 hour paint consultation will go a long way in relieving the stress of which whites to use. It's been over a month, so perhaps you've already taken care of the situation, but if not, this is an option.

Patrickgaffney35 - I realize this an old post but curious what color did you end up painting your walls and ceiling?

Looks very bright and warm! Did you also paint the ceilings and walls in darker north facing rooms and if so did they turn dark? I’m looking at white dove for ceilings but afraid it might turn dark in the northern exposure bedrooms

@poorgirl - yes, our kitchen and half our living room is north facing but we get a lot of light. We also have hallway walls and ceilings in white dove where we don’t have much light coming in and I wouldn’t consider them dark. I think you will be just fine in your north facing bedrooms!

OK.... i have committed to White Dove ceilings and trim, I don't have a wall color yet but i just bought a tester of Winds Breath, this is what my designer originally has selected. Thank you KS for your picture inspiration. Walls are being taped as I type!

How did winds breath go with dove white ceiling/trim? I’m considering the same.

Kitchenremodel52 unfortunately we rejected our engineered floor due to poor quality in the floor. But we did have the ceilings painted White Dove and the walls are primed. We love the ceilings ga, very warm not so bright and white.
Here are pictures of what we rejected so you can see the colour we were going with.

@poorgirl I'm crashing this thread. Have you finished with your walls and everything? Wondering how it all looks :) We get our flooring Aug 2nd, and at this point I'm thinking White dove for everything in the living room and much of the house.

Brenda, we have the ceilings in the house all white Dive but we couldn’t get the floor we wanted and it’s been almost 3 months of complete frustration but we did finally get something we both agreed on , but we are not painting until the floors are in, the cabinets are white dove and all the trim will be also. We are doing this Reno ourselves and decided to put the stone work in the exterior of the house and build a gazebo instead. We have the flooring stacked up in a bedroom looking at us every time we walk by it! If you have waited this long , I would suggest you wait abit longer before you paint. I do have a friend that painted her cabinets white Dove, walls White Dove and painted the ceiling a white white along with the trim . Her cabinets are looking abit yellow and the walls look fine. The house is on the lake front and it’s a wall of windows so I don’t know why they look yellow.
Sorry I can’t be much more help. Other then I really like the white Dove ceilings.

My cabinets are in a south facing room , her would be facing east.

But her floors were also running abit yellow .

I thought so to but it’s not showing up on the walls only the cabinets . I brought over a door of mine to compare because I thought they had painted the wrong colour but mine turned yellow also when it was held up to her cabinets

Well I think BM Dove White has yellow undertones so maybe it’s the lighting. It is an off white.
