Area rug to go with salmon walls and brown sofas

I'm having a hard time trying to figure out what area rug to put in my open plan living room area underneath the couches. One couch is chocolate brown and the other couch and ottoman is tan. The walls are a salmon color and the tile is sand color.

I live in South Florida and would like to give the room a whimsical tropical feel. It's an open plan living room and kitchen and the kitchen cabinets are dark brown and most of the furniture in the room is brown or tan. I need a rug that won't show dirt too much, as I have large dogs and lots of traffic. The size of the rug needed is roughly 9x11 ft. I've included some pictures. Thanks so much for any help!

Something like this would look cute.

Another that would hide dog dirt and hair

Consider painting the black bookcase. It is not good for your tropical scheme.

Thanks for the suggestions! I want to add more color to the room and try to avoid adding any more heavy browns and tans. I didn't even think of painting the desk, bookcase, and TV stand! I love that idea tho! I'm not very artistic and pretty much everything I have in the room has been donated by family and friends so I'm finding it hard to get the look I like. I agree that the picture behind the TV is horrible! It was hung when the TV was over by the bookcase. What colors would you suggest to paint the desk, bookcase, and/or TV stand that would go with the salmon walls and brown couches? Thanks so much! My in-laws are coming to visit soon and I've gotta get it looking better than it is now!

Also, what do u think about moving the TV stand over to the right, at an angle in the corner. Where the yellow lamp is now next to the tan sofa? And maybe leaving the large painting where it is? I'm afraid that if I move the painting to where the mirror is, that my misbehaving cats will sit on the table and shred it.

I think I like the salmon striped rug that Rina posted the best. I was also considering a black and white or navy and white geometric patterned rug. Any thoughts on that? I'm thinking it could look either really good and bold, or really really terrible! Here are some I like, but I'm not sure if it will work with the rest of the room. Assume I'll paint the furniture a lighter more tropical color-love that idea!

I don't know if this is too much for you but it's definitely whimsical! I see you already have some teal pillows so maybe you could use that color to paint some of your furniture. This is 8 x 10'6" and on sale for $211 at Overstock. It's also indoor/outdoor so very easy care. I think it would really brighten up your space and add that whimsical look you're hoping to achieve.

Turquoise and salmon are vibrant and would be great in Florida. I would use a deeper turquoise than the salmon, so that they're not "fighting" each other.

Ooh I really like that rug, thanks! Puremichigan- did you mean that I should use a deeper turquoise than is in the rug above? Thank you

I was thinking of painting the TV stand a light butter yellow kind of color, or a teal that is brighter and darker than the rug above. How do you think that would look with the salmon and turquoise rug above? Thanks for the input! I'm getting excited about this room now!

The rug has good balance between the two colors. I just wouldn't have a pale, cool turquoise that didn't stand up to the salmon and when you find a rug you like, then you can take colors from it for the rest of the room.
