Pendant lighting or island lighting?

I love the look of pendant lighting but I cannot picture how it will actually work when I am using the island. Do they provide real light or are they just decorative? Do they get in the way? I hate being at restaurants where there is a light fixture hanging so low that they seem to feel right on top of you. Do pendant lights feel that way? We have a large island and an open concept kitchen and living room so the lighting choice will be very visible. Any thoughts?

Pendants provide real light AND decoration--some styles have more direct, focused light than others, though. Having the lights get in the way doesn't need to be a problem. We have a helpful guide to light sizing that covers ideal pendant hanging heights over an island.

You may consider the 5lights or 7lights island pendant for your large island,choose the cord is adjustable so you will not have the feeling in the restaurants, you can use a dimmer switch to control your island light so it will fit your kitchen well
