I would also be grateful if someone could suggest the colours for the furniture that would compliment the soapstone stove and the kitchen. The ceiling as shone in this picture is quite high and slants as we move towards the right. On the right we have the windows in the roof and an exit to the balcony adjacent to it. I don't want to shrink the size of this place. My style is mediterranean but I am not sure how to make it work here. Open to other ideas as well. Thanks!

As the furniture is placed slightly over the end of the wall - I would accentuate that to make it appear it was ment to be like that (rather than looking like it was ordered wrong ) by getting a carpenter to build you an enormous bulkhead with task lighting to illuminate the sink and work top. I would paint it grey to link in with the fireplace and take it right the way to the cooker hood wall - in a room with proportions like that it can easily take it ! RE colours - if you want med style then change doors to white - although that may be a bit cold - you'd have to add strong splashes of warm orange,red,pink around the place to heat it up a bit !

I forgot to add that I cannot make changes such as those you suggested because this is a rental apartment. I can only work with it like how it is. The total space excluding the kitchen area is 39m2 and will hold a living room and a dining area as well. I need colours for sofas/dining table and so on. Thanks!

Whoops ! In that case I'd re use as many colours as you can that are already in there ! So chrome, beech, greys and white will all blend in well then add some funky cushions !!

Looks like a great rental apartment. Hope you can get some furniture that uses that height to a mezzanine level (even if you have to take it apart at the end). Colours that work with this should remain muted - because you basically have a silver and pinkish hues. I can see grey coming up as a sensible choice. Keeping the apartment monochromatic using greys in various tones and textures will help keep it looking spacious, light, but still welcoming. For textures, brushed suede, felt, linen, cotton, and even the odd sheepskin. Use minimal black accents that echo the granite and the rest can remain white.
It is a very simple palette but could work to help resolve your dilemma

Great! thanks to your ideas it is less overwhelming now. I love the colours and textures suggested and have some funky cushions. What do you suggest I put on top of those kitchen cabinets without looking cluttered?

You can get quotes that stick onto the wall ( that can easily peel off again ) I would use that space to have something that means something to me written up there !?!?
Ie "never trust a skinny cook" or "I'd rather be skiing than cooking " or "my other home is a castle" etc !! Maybe light it with an up lighter - but if you put solid things up there I think it will always look cluttered !

Thanks for your suggestions again. Another thing is that since I cannot build a bulkhead to hold everything together, I am thinking of placing a slim table on the right side (the blank wall as in the picture). This will also serve as an entryway table since there is no other plcae for that. Is this a good idea?if yes, should that table be exactly in line with the kitchen cabinet that is jutting out? And what colour and style should it be?
