What is YOUR style? Do you like the look in the pictures you posted. What colors do you like? What is your lifestyle..how will you use the different spaces? Will you watch TV in one of these? Where? There should be work done before we all start "throwing things at you", although I know that is what will happen. I prefer to design a room for a client..not for me.

HI -- the room looks perfect to me but you could add some wood between the ceiling beams and / or you could add some flowy semi sheer drapes or some modern electrical operating blinds . BUT - come on - do you really have to change anything ? There are a thousand ideas and things and furniture you could do and get BUT are you wanting to go more masculine or staying with the modern or adding more transitional pieces .

I like the modern style of the prior owner's furnishings. I think it works well with the style of the house.

I do feel like it needs a bit more color though. More than the green chair (and I do love that green chair!) I think adding a bit of color in the furnishings and accents will help to make the room feel warmer and more inviting.

    Hello Sebastian, marie here.
A good designer can come up with millions of options for you pushing this gorgeous back drop to whatever style you prefer, the important thing is to discover what makes you, your wife and family happy and how you want to use the space. Yes, Its important to say you have a busy family with lots of kids - which equates to only specifying durable fabrics for your busy family, but the vision needs to be clarified first.

I'd like to see a bursts of colour - in artwork, and some perfect accessories - like in the attached photo.
You may want to simply add paint as an accent, or keep your space very neutral in which case, you need to add interest texturally.

I like the idea of building in a media centre adding more of that gorgeous fireplace stone balancing out the space - like in the last photo.

You have a quite a few options, budget, timelines, and aesthetic is obviously modern, but do you prefer it to be pushed industrial, or more glamour chic with sparkle and crisp contrast?

A few photos have been downloaded to depict what you prefer, and, I would highly recommend hiring an interior designer to help you complete these rooms properly. We can save you money if your dealing with the right designer - in that we are purchasing all the time, so suppliers always give us discounts. In the end you end up with a designer room, and spending exactly what you wanted to spend. This is why budgets are so important for designers to obtain from our clients. Good luck with your project, and do contact me if you require further information or clarification.

Advice: Don't purchase blinds before you have a master design scheme - the drapery is the jewellery on your home, you need to know what kind of outfit she's / he's wearing before you put in the finishing touches!

Can't see the fourth wall so not sure how much space you have or what else is in the room. If you work at home, one thing you might consider for the living area is to have bookshelves with possibly a built in desk unit on part of the back wall. That way you could have a space for reading materials and a place to work while keeping an eye out if the kids are in the room. As for the decor of the room, of course depends on your taste, but since asking for opinions, the white looks a little cold to me. I could see a light gray on the walls and rugs with some color and/or pattern rather than the light colored rugs here. Maybe a round table for the dining area.
    Some round table ideas:

HI -- Boy, it would have been nice to have known that was the former owners furniture right away ! Anyway, what i said about adding wood and so on still stands. And everyone else is already adding some great info . It's a wonderful space , enjoy !

Marie is right on so many counts! I would ask if the light fixtures in each room are still there, as sometimes owners with a specific style bent may not make them part of the sale. If they are still there, is that a style direction you like? That might be your take off point with the two rooms, which have great potential. Perhaps a few pics of the kitchen, very possibly a permanent installation you won't change, would give direction to our suggestions.

Wow.. great space. Love the view ourtside the sliders. Very bachelor pad right now, but if you "soften" it up a bit, will be wonderful for a family of 4. Can we see a pic of the kitchen?

Safety first - I hope you have deadlocks on the glass doors so your kids can not get outside unnoticed. The water looks too inviting!
A huge area rug with texture will get you started. I would suggest a durable modern sofa, then two classic modern chairs in colours you love. Colourful pillows will cozy up the sofa.
What are your favourite colours? Use those in accents, art work.
Keep it simple. This is a great room for some impressive choices.

If you like this style - why not just copy it ?! Keeping the colours of the large items (rug, sofa, table ) to the same colour pallet as the built items (white, dark wood, stone ) and then add splashes of colour ( on throws, cushions, table runner) like burnt orange in fall or warm greens in spring - ie that you can change with the seasons will keep it fresh all year round !

Would you consider motorizing your window coverings? Men love their gadgets!

    Hi Sebastian,
What a lovely space to work with. I think that some window coverings would add some warmth and privacy without sacrificing the external flow of natural sunlight. Check out the two 3 Day Blinds window treatments attached and feel free to reach out to me with any questions!

Since you and your wife work from home, balancing a functional yet comfortable environment can be tricky. I suggest replacing the couch with something like the one attached- comfortable but still keeping with the modern decor of the room.

    Happy Decorating!
