Fireplace makeover advice needed!

My fireplace is the focal point of our great room. First of all... Yes, the TV has to stay. We do not have a family room, and the layout of the great room does not accommodate a TV anywhere else but over the fireplace. I was thinking stacked stone for the fireplace, but how far do you think it should go up? Or maybe there is better choice than stacked stone? I recently remodeled my kitchen, which is on the opposite side of the fireplace. Due to the open concept design, things need to compliment each other without being too matchy, matchy. For example, I have quartz countertops that simulate Carrera marble, but maybe marble fireplace tiles would be too much. I like a mix of modern and tasteful farm/county. Any comments and suggestions are appreciated!

I like the stacked stone idea. Go up to the overhang and stop there. A grey stone or quartz product would look good! As an afterthought some LED pot lights in the overhang would make a very cool effect.

I would suggest leaving the TV where it is and filling in the top space with a white painted board or board with tile matching your fireplace. That space needs covered with something IMHO.

We suggest leaving the fireplace as is: Tile wise. Raising the TV up a few inches, and adding a Mantle. You could also consider painting that section of the fireplace and making it stand out more. Just a thought. :-)

I agree with you reneg62, the stacked stone would really make a statement. It should go all the way to the top. Once this is done, raise the TV up a few inches.

Beautiful kitchen. My issue isnt the fireplace and tv as much as the decor surrounding it. The area is full of 4 sided square/rectangular shapes. This needs to be broken up. Instead of the framed mirror and framed print try something like a round or oval mirror, or 2 differing shapes/sized prints stacked, or a decorative wall decor that is organically shaped. Id look for a closed cabimet to house your components imstead of the clear open looking unit. My other thoight is the rug isnt working with the kitchen design. I feel you need something lighter and brigher. I love your kitchen. Its so pretty.

You made great choices all around...beautiful! The mirror next to to fireplace made me think about the great juxtaposition of metal and marble. This could translate to the fireplace using architectural metal wall panels and tie into your kitchen. Something as simple as tiling it will make a HUGE impact in the entire house. If your budget is limited and you do not want to go with Natural Stone, you can always tile it with Porcelain or Ceramic tile! Here's an example of a customer's fireplace.

If you tiled the whole fireplace (horizontally lay the tile) and then add a mosaic detail where your fireplace drywall slopes in that could add a very interesting visual appearance to the wall. It could almost act as a visual illusion. The same mosaic tile should be sweeped over to either side of the fireplace drywall.

Are you thinking of changing your fireplace unit? If so, I would suggest to go with a wider fireplace unit with a minimal edge.

Consider adding a lovely mantle that is an ash color to tie in with the gray kitchen cabinets. Then tile the fireplace with glass tiles, something along these lines. But I'd install them vertically, not horizontally from the floor to the mantel.
Or if your budget allows and you prefer a sleeker look, consider marble or quartz like this on the entire wall. Again, to tie in with your lovely kitchen.
