It depends on the look you are trying to achieve. I think it looks ok but here are 2 things that I think would improve it. Replace th 12" x 12" marble tiles with small glass mosaic tiles. and if you want to take it to the next level also use the same mosaic tiles above in the recess area (where the picture is hanging, then you can re hand the picture--which I would reframe with a black frame.

I agree. Keep it. Cool artwork or metal object. Change the wall color by the bar area? Not the stain.

This is what is so fun about this forum: I like the picture, I like the birds and I like the finish on the fireplace. I would move the picture up so that it is about 15" (guess) higher, and then let the birds live below it on the mantel, the tall bird perhaps reaching up a high enough to break above the bottom of the frame.

It looks like the stain on the above portion of the bar is a more yellow color, is that just the way the photo looks? I think I would stain all to match, or, if you are considering painting the room, such as a clould gray, and you want the cabinetry to not compete with the fireplace, then paint the cabinetry a deeper cloud gray.

Simplifiy all the colors you have on the cabinets, as they are creating eye clutter.

I think the stain is fine as is..the appearance of a color difference looks to me to be about light.

If I do glass tiles what about the hearth itself. Those tiles match the ones around the fireplace

I think those tiles will not look so bad if you change the wall color and if you want pillows there, certainly not the color of the hearth..choose ones with pattern and brighter colors. Raising the picture will not help..find something much larger and maybe with a lighter background or a light mat.

You could mount your tv over it. then a large art piece with a sconce on both sides or maybe get rid of the excess top of the unit. Maybe look ag the orignal blue prints and see what they had it mind. Maybe a fish tsnk ? i don't know what they were gping for. You might have to a decorator stop over for sn opinion or better yet take these photos to a dedign studio and get their opinion. Lowes abd Home Depot even have on site designers at no cost. vThey could really offer great solutions fir useful spaces. Good luck Check out Pintrest also.
