I'd start with painting the walls a color that will give you a little contrast. Right now they are basically the same color as the cabinets so maybe something lighter to brighten up the space and maybe more toward the warm grey that you have painted in the one area. You could add different hardware, different hardware that might be a little more of a focal point, even a backsplash in a lighter color (subway tile?) And I like Paula's idea of a nice window treatment; maybe a roman shade vs. a poufy valance. Good luck!

Pretty cabinets, pretty floor, I like the gray paint you've started. Paula 7658's suggestions are spot on.

I used to have that space above the cabinets then went to retail supplier and had cupboards installed above.. Great storage for infrequently used items.. The biggest benefit--NO DUST on top!. Love it.

Paula would you replace the stuff on top of the cabinets or just leave it empty?

Depends on what you want really. If you like to display stuff or need to add interest to your kitchen you could still have cupboards with glass doors added.
In my huge white kitchen I have some exposed areas and some cupboards for seldom used items. I can't really tell which I prefer.
