You've nothing to lose by trying! If I were you, I'd talk to a guy at the paint store about how to prime/paint. I think I'd just do the part over the fireplace first, to see what that looks like. A big piece of art might draw the eye up and make the side tiles fade into the background. Good luck!

I agree give it a shot I am however very confused as to your furniture arrangement usually you would face the fireplace and FYI a mirror needs to reflect something worth seeing twice so i would move that one down on that wall to reflect the view and face the sofa to the Fireplace

I think it can work if you change the paint color (is it peach?).

Sheet rock over it. That's what my builder did to cover the huge brick wall I hated.

I agree with Judy if you want a clean crisp look. If you like texture paint it. It will take some work because it is slate and a lot of texture. Then frame add mantel and a large painting to rest on it. Because it has grout, it will look as you painted.

I might want to have that framed out with wood. Then at least I could hang a picture if I wanted to!

We had an electric fireplace that we framed out with wood in our old house and I loved it. Since this is a wood burning stove, I assume its not safe? But I don't know...
