Unknown Weed Identification

This weed is appearing all over my lawn, and I haven't been able to figure out what it is. It forms rosettes with lobed, wavy, and serrated leaf edges. It hasn't gone to flower yet (currently early May) to help with identification. I live in the good ol' hot and dry West. Any ideas would greatly help.

On another site, sow thistle was suggested? Thoughts?

sow thistle is usually solitary.

How about digging one up and post a picture of the entire plant including the root system.

I began digging a small lone one out to hear a thick root snap. From what I saw, it has a thick tap root for the plant's small size.
