Ditto what Sophie said, just drawers!

Drawers. You can never have enough. We had a few door cabinets put in our new kitchen and ended up changing them putting drawers behind them. If I had to do it again, I would have put in drawers.

Sorry for the misunderstanding...it's not putting doors in front of drawers...it's either 10-12 " deep drawers w/ nice pulls, or doors, w/ slide out shelves.

Drawers! It is so nice not to have to crawl around on the floor to dig something out of the back of a cabinet! I put in drawers & I wish I had room for more!

NOT sliding shelves....you will kick your butt for years! you need ONE-STEP function in your kitchen....with the right hardware you will often find yourself using other body arts to open them :)

A ''sliding shelf'' is just a drawer behind a door. Same same. With extra effort, chance of door damage, and more expense.

Doors with sliding shelves only make sense if there's some visual reason that the drawers plain wouldn't look good, like if you are trying to create symmetry with something that NEEDS to be a full door sized panel, like a pull out trash area.

We have sliding shelves and baskets here, but they are retrofits to make our old kitchen work better until we redo the whole thing. When we do, it is going to be predominantly drawers with only base cabinets with doors possibly to fill in some odd spots, like a narrow area next to the stove might be a cabinet with a door to be used for storing cookie sheets on end just so the space isn't lost, that sort of thing.

I say that it all depends on your age and health when it comes down to choosing drawers over doors and shelves, as we age bending becomes a bit difficult for most ,so I think that drawers are easier to get into ,with doors and shelves some things are hard to reach and when it comes time for cleaning its another story . I like drawers ,they are pull out and things are at my finger tips.... that's all folks !:))

Drawers are cheaper & easier to use.

I chose sliding shelves behind doors. The reason I did, instead of drawers, is because drawers are a fixed depth, and you lose a lot of storage space between them (height-wise). My sliding shelves are adjustable height, which makes the space more flexible. My needs change over time. I don't use the lower cabinets so often that opening the doors to get to the contents is an issue. I have no regrets.

As many drawers as you can. Except under the sink and the recycle cupboard all of my lowers are drawers, including the 7' island.

Drawers. I don't have a single item, that won't fit in my deep drawers. This is also the benefit of ordering frameless cabinets. More interior room than in framed cabinets.

When I did a gut to the studs reno of my kitchen two years ago, the SMARTEST thing I did, without really realizing how much it would really affect the efficiency of the kitchen, was making all the lower cabinets into drawers. I thought I was doing it so I could "age in place" and never have to get on my hands and knees to dig for a pot again. But it truly made for a more efficient work flow and ease of storage NOW and there isn't a day that I don't exclaim how happy I am that I installed all drawers.

The best drawer thing I ever had in a kitchen was when we rented a house with big drawers under a cooktop. Fantastic pot and pan storage. Right there to hand, no getting lost at the back, and I traced out the pan outlines on drawer liner so people put the pans back in the way that fit best every time.

That said, I do plan to have a couple cabinets, like I said, to fill in weird places, because with narrow drawers you lose a lot to the drawer slides. I will use those for things like cookie sheets and cutting boards standing on end like books, so you can just slip out the one you want without juggling a big stack.

All drawers! No brainer!

Thank you all for your opinions. We're going w/ all drawers on the bottom. I think they'll look great, and we'll enjoy the functionality of them.

oh i'm sorry i missed this but i'll give a shout for a few pull out sliding shelves behind doors. my old kitchen had all drawers and you end up just dumping stuff in, burying things like food processors and blenders that you dont use much and then you DON'T use them much cuz its too much effort disentangling them from small items.

so, a combination of drawers and slide outs is what i recommend, and put your small appliances on the slide outs.

Another vote for drawers. Size them so your tallest pots can fit and your pot covers can stand in a rack. I used base drawers wherever I could in my kitchen reno two years ago and it was the best decision ever. I do have pull-out shelves behind doors under my cooktop, and they're great for appliances like my food processor and stand mixer.

I don't have drawers, but my parents do. They are big and she keeps pots and pans in them. They are so much easier to get to. I love it!

They also have drawers behind doors on the other side of the kitchen, which is annoying to use. I know you aren't doing that, but I wanted to mention it since others did.

Thanks, nnigrt. We do have a walk-in pantry that has different "height" slide out shelves. We planned for taller appliances, or smaller appliances we don't use often to go in the pantry. Dumping things in drawers is a consideration...I'm good at that!
