Help with kitchen

I'm thinking I can have the cabinets which are hardwood shaker design professionally painted, get new countertops and a new floor and it will be a relatively cheep redo. I think the layout is good work flow wise. Although it will be hard to replace the ancient jenn air which has a down draft fan.

What do you think should I paint the cabinets? other suggestions?

I would try to get the cooktop out of island onto the fridge wall and either move fridge next to sink or on the short wall we can't see in the pic (assuming there is space).

If you need to keep cooktop on island, get an induction.

Loose the heavy dark window treatments and consider painting the ceiling rather than the cabinets.

To help with your question what colors do you have in your home?

The window treatments are going for sure. The ceiling is actually water damaged and I am contemplating painting vs replacement after fixing the roof.

As far as colors my kitchen table is white modern with modern chairs. The few other colors in the house are sort of midcentury modern browns rust green yellow. But there really isn't any color scheme yet.

I think a pale gray paint could be nice here -- would give some contrast with walls (although depends what you intend there) but stay light, open the space up a bit. Plus, just about any counter works, including that MCM-friendly white.

These light approaches will let your ceiling star. If you decide to paint that in the end, then you might want a darker gray just to keep the kitchen from disappearing.

I would play up those wood ceilings by having white upper cabinets with colored lower cabinets. It's a more modern look that keeps those ceilings the star of the room. Consider these pics

Replace the Jenn ait when you change counters as for price getting cabineys pro painted is expensive and IMO imperative if you want a nice finish counters are pricy so best to figure out your budget and see what you can do now and what might have to wait, It is anice space so really think about what you are doing.

    1. Extend wood floor through to kitchen - since it is so open
    2. The cabinets are shaker style and can be lightened by wallpapering the insert in a sturdy woven raffia.
    3. Light Quartz countertop, with an overhang on the island so you can slide some stools in
    4. Glass subway tile back splash in a subtle color that picks up what you are going for in your house.
5 what you save on the cabinets, get a nice Samsung pro style slide in electric range for island.

I like the idea of extending the wood floor but Im worried that the wood won't match. I this not a valid concern?

I'll have to think carefully re a backsplash it could make it amazing or awful, that one's tricky. Although any of the mosaics by ariel are stunning.

    Thanks everyone
