Hi highly recommend quartz, it is very durable and kid friendly.

Granite is a wonderful choice as is Quartz. The main difference is that quartz is non-porus so it does not need to be sealed the way granite does. Regardless of which hard surface you choose, always use a trivet/hot pad/cutting board to really protect the counter.

I agree with the above comments. I just want to add the look of granite and the look of quartz are so different. Quartz is going to give you a generally more uniform color and pattern. Granite has the natural beauty in variation. Really depends on the style of the area.
