I need help placing the television.

After a recent flood, I am taking advantage of this time to remodel. I want to move a medium sized flat screen tv from a wall used for traffic to a quiet corner of our den. My husband originally had wanted the tv placed above the fireplace. I talked him out of it and now I want to make certain my decision was correct. The fireplace is part of an entire brick wall with a 90 x 12 inch hearth. The ceiling is 8 feet and is vaulted to 12 feet in the center of the room and centered above the fireplace. The left side of that brick wall has an arched doorway to the hall. The right side of the brick wall has a matching arch alcove, where I would like to place the television. Should I try to get the wiring run to hang the tv above the rough cut mantle? Or should I place the tv in the alcove to the right of the fireplace and in the corner? If placed in the alcove, I would like the tv "hidden" back in the alcove, but I need a way to pull it out to an angle for viewing. Any suggestions?
