I really love a teal colored door right now. I'm doing my house in gray and really want one!

Cute house and front door! I love the idea of a teal/blue color. Of the ones you posted, I really like the deeper, warmer color (top right). I think it will pop, but not look out of place. Good luck!

The choice of door color could be driven by what's inside. I prefer a door that's painted the same on both sides. If you feel that way, go with a color that relates to your pops of color inside that you might see when door is opened. Even if you don't choose to paint the same color both sides, this is a good strategy. A house is for those living inside, rather than for the world-view.

An all-black door could also be nice, since you have black shutters and some trim.

I once painted my door in Venezuelan Sea by BM. It's a gorgeous teal--more green, perhaps, than the colors you've shown--that goes beautifully with brick. I loved it! Then I painted it in something else, and then something else, and then...yeah, I'm a serial door painter. But the inside of the door has remained Venezuelan Sea because it's 100% right for my interior. Anyway, that doesn't actually answer your question, so before I wander off again, let me just say that of the colors you've posted, I'd go with the richest teal. You won't be sorry.

Pssst! But I also love that stunning blue on the bottom left.

All those colors seem really bright for the brick. Tone down the intensity. Go for a contrasting color which would be a sage green or dusty aqua. The door doesn't need to jump out at you.

Wow! It was so exciting to come home and find all these great responses! I was very happy (and surprised) to see that most of you were leaning towards Teal. I had considered the idea of Black and am still considering some kind of green. I really thank all of you for your great thoughts and suggestions. While I was out, I went to Lowe's and got another sample (I think this stuff is addicting). This one is Sherwin Williams Intense Teal. Would love your thoughts on it and any other color suggestions you have. This weekend I will probably begin to paint sample boards...very exciting!

Were it my house, I would remove the shutters; paint the paneling black and the front door, black, as well.

In terms of fashion, I chose the teal on my house in 2009, before I moved in in 2010. The fashion been going for a few years. New fashion coming in is dark green, and olive green.

Anyway, you can always repaint. Painting doors is a chore, though.

Hi Judy, This would be a BOLD step for me to paint the door black and the panels black. If anybody can photoshop, it might be fun to see how it would look! The pictures I posted above of the new color are not correct. I will repost.

Totally agree with Judy. The black would also look great with your roof...very nice!

Love this picture! And, yes indeed, window boxes are exactly
what I am thinking of for the windows (next project after door)! If I
keep any shutters, it will just be on the two windows to the right of the door.
Shutters will be “architecturally correct” (i.e. large enough to close)
and with full hardware. Not sure of the style of shutter (i.e. louvers,
board and batten, or panel); not sure of the length (all the way to the bottom,
or be different and stop them at the window and add beautiful window boxes below).

green in this color. Brick appears to be similar color to mine. Foundation planting will be changed (another project) although I do love the knockout roses.

I, too, wondered what it is called. Apron seems to be the only term I could find.

It looks like applied wainscoting, but it seems recessed. I was hoping you could take it off.

The bay window area (one the garage door?) Those muntins are white, but other three windows are black. Think all black muntins. I am a stickler for appropriate shutters, but in this case what if one pair of black shutters is cut down to fit the the bay window? Now black balances with the three other black windows (no shutters)?

Or no shutters: all windows black; front door black and the panels are painted the color of the brick...leaving the white frame around the red?

There is a Ben Moore color called Somerville Red. It might work for the wainscoting.

I have a bunch of pictures posted with where I "think" I am going with this Curb Appeal project; all subject to change; but it might help give you a fuller idea....

Judy - you are messing with my mojo (lol) - I think I like those suggestions...but I would have to be so brave!!! When I go out I will get a paint chip for that color. I think my husband would like that suggestion - he is struggling with the teal. So what color are you saving you think we should paint the entire Bay Window; and are you saying the only window that would have shutters would be the Bay Window and shutters would be Black with the mullions Black????

This is a fairly current picture, showing shutters off of front window. We will be adding a small front entry porch with peaked roof and benches. We want to "beef up windows (all windows will be new) and thus we will trim out front window, bay window and front door. If we do not use shutters at all we will, of course, trim out the windows to the right of door.

It's a beautiful door, but the colour just disappears into the brick colour. Be adventurous. Giving the living room shutters would help continue the line.

This house is pretty much the idea...except for that shutter....

So, in this picture the garage section is your white bay. You paint the windows black.

When I do a close up of your other windows, the skinny trim is white...I think that should be painted black; front door black.

What if you did all that and then see if the wainscoting should be black, as well.

Also, save one pair of shutters, because they may be an important last touch of black on the white bay.

malcomroad, I hope you seriously consider the black which can be so classic with brick. I like the idea of some white incorporated into the mix. However, maybe not the downspouts...they need to blend more with the brick.

We also have "aprons" under our window. We updated our home last summer. Our aprons looked like yours. This is how we changed them up.

And we chose a yellow toned color for our door with red brick.

The intense blue may be too bright. Someone once told me to lean toward colors with some black in the base, rather than white - I think that's a shade, rather than a tone. That will keep you in the color family you want without getting garish.

kellykins1 - this looks amazing the way you have dealt with the "apron" and paired it with a very interesting door color! Did you redo the panels on the apron or were they the existing ones? JudyG Designs - Somerville red color may be on the right track (or one that is specific to matching my brick) and then proceed with using it as a trim. Now to find a complimentary door color; Intense Teal is nixed; I can't bring myself to go with black; and we have (in our past) use a ton of Green (which I loved for the homes we used it on), but I wanted to branch out a little. We will be adding a small porch and trimming the door out substantially. I will try to post a picture of what we are thinking about. I am not pleased with the front of the house and want to add interest and I think changing roof line to add a porch would do that. We will be moving the driveway and eliminating cement - that will all be yard.

We redid the aprons. They were wood painted white with moldings identical to yours. We redid them with gentek aluminum in sable color. I was unsure about having them done in aluminum but was very happy with the way they turned out.
