They both have so much energy that they constantly run at least 20 minutes a day. Both of them are about eight years old and still enjoy running in a circle.

so, make an island oasis for you in the middle, dirt track around it. not what you had in mind but you could coexist....

We had greyhounds, they are so sweet, great pets. We had the same problem, we had to make it impossible to run there with landscaping. Be careful though, they can run in a very small space, as you know. It would be great if you had room for a dog run on a side yard. Can you post a picture, maybe Houzzers can help with specific ideas.

I was going to suggest what nnigrt said. We had a lab that did the same years ago. We surrounded the back garden in a pen about five foot wide. Leave the rest of the garden for the humans . They can have a natural race track that way. If you don't want it covered in dirt or mud plastic pavers are kind on their feet and inexpensive.

Take them out for exercise. Plus permeable artificial grass at home.

Wow, I had always heard that while greyhounds will certainly tear up the track, they vastly prefer hanging out on the couch. Guess I was wrong. Yours are, by the way, just adorable!

Beauties. I think they would love a little wading a pool , great idea. Is there a place you could take them to run off leash once in a while? Be careful with dog parks , review them first. Maybe an open field the owner would allow you to use. It would do you all good if they were able to have some time getting up to full speed on occasion. It's a wonderful sight.

I have an elderly, very non-greyhound type dog, but he's getting somewhat longer walks than your greyhounds are getting, so maybe you could think about upping their walk time. Also, my old boy meets two local greyhounds in the dog park from time to time - and they're running up and down, off leash, chasing balls and kongs and whatever. Maybe think about getting the dogs somewhere where they can get a real, off leash run (legally and safely) and burn off some steam that way.

I feel for you and your buddies. I have a very active dog myself. Have you considered having someone come in mid-day to walk them. Most dog walking services will work a weekly price for you. Side point, I know a treadmill is tempting and sounds good on paper but, it's not a safe idea for a dog. If you choose to use one make sure it's made for dogs and only use it when they are supervised.

Some of you are focused on adding another walk for them mid day. GREAT! I've tried that also. I guess we're (people) aren't trained to race sooo fast. The reality is ....its in their blood, makeup, system to RUN. I've even tried to run with them. I cant run fast and it ends up being a "jogging" session for them. I've even taken them for very very long walks attempting to tire them out. No such luck. They just need to embrace that inner feeling of "the full run." Having the freedom to run run run in an all out fast pace is what truly tires them (not walking). I walked the yard this morning and decided that I'll get the left and the dogs will get the right. Next weekend I'll start planting the grass. Thanks for all of your suggestions.

Yes, they are lazy bums until the family comes home, then they get excited, and show off, look mom, see how fast I can go?! Hope it works out.

We agree with Erica M. and Tribbletrouble44152k7 Trek. Having a backyard or separate dog run with artificial grass will allow them to run on a surface that won't get damaged. I agree artificial turf is the way to go. It's less money in the long run rather then struggling to keep a lawn for the next 14 + years.

I've always walked my greyhounds at least 3 times ever day, but as many have suggested, this doesn't duplicate what they get from running. So my back yard has become a muddy mess, which bothers me only because at least some of that muddy mess gets tracked inside and on to the bed we share upstairs.I am a little reluctant to put down grass turf due to the expense, but wonder about other things one can put down like straw, wood chips, etc. Any ideas would be much appreciated.
