I suggest looking at photos here on Houzz -- you can, for example, search for white cabinets and gray countertop and then look at the kitchens that come up. Start an ideabook of the ones you really love, and then see if any commonalities emerge. You could go with wood to match the house, or any shade of tile, but if doing tile, be sure you have samples of your counter and your flooring in the same place at some point.
