No, it is neither mission nor Victorian. It appears to be a product of the American Colonial Revival movement. That revival stretched out over a pretty long period, but I would guess this chair is from the 1920s or 30s, possibly later. It imitates turnings of the early 1700s, combined with rockers of the early 1800s (sorry, rocking chairs are not colonial), a typical anachronistic gaff (and charm)of the Colonial Revival. But without looking at it closely, it would be hard to tell. Is it by any chance made of maple with a mahogany stain, a popular combination in the 1920s and 30s?

Thanks so much Marco and Bev..I never would have even guessed American Revival as this is the first time I have picked up an old piece of furniture and not known anything about it. Anything else I have has been in the family and we know its origins. This was a $15 thrift store find

The modern staples comment was a bit odd and Tatts that was just plain rude . Do you think aybe someone redid the upholstery and left the straw hence the staples . It is a mystery

maybe did not mess with stuffing, just used staples to reattach.

I gotta say all that drinking is bleeding over to the other threads, not that i am going to say anything, just wish we would police ourselves a little better.

Yes..it has definitely been reupholstered and came with 2 matching cushions lol! However did it just left everything else original , stuffing etc..it's pretty old straw !

I am refurbishing this chair that has straw and cotton batting. Should I remove the straw and/or batting. It doesn't smell and is in ok shape.

i have almost identical. after removing layers of fabric, foam, and sotton, i found a foam cushion that is similar to memory foam, honeycomb design. It was stamped March 1940, with a part number. I came across a patent website for the cushion, which I believe is the original cushion based on the layers I removed.
